Family Of Gus
September 30, 2002
To all the comrades of Gus Mahon I give my condolences. In these past several weeks I have been trying to deal with our loss.
By your outpour of cards and e-mails, I know you share our family's sorrow. Your written tributes helped to console our heartache. It would
be impossible to thank each one of you individually, but your donations have been so generous and immensely appreciated. We will use it
when needed. Thank you so much.
We buried Gus on August 23rd. We buried his father on September 23rd. We have had to deal with two types of dying; the one
you never expected to happen and the one you prepare yourself for. Neither one is easy to endure, but with the help of family and friends,
we will get through this.
Once more, we would like to thank all of you. Gus loved you. You were part of his life. Let his memory live on forever. Please
continue to tell Gus stories; we do.

Well, I never met Gus, or had a chance to even talk to him...But, I did learn a lot from his website and other sites that had his crazy but fully functional ideas for turbo mopars. I can just hope to meet him later sometime on the greatest race track ever and thank him for all the ideas and advies he has given us and all the sacrifices he had to make for us to get those ideas.

Gus,
We still miss you. I enjoyed our few chats on the phone. Thanks for all you have done in our lives. You had no idea of the lives you touched.
Hope to see you again.

Even though I never met "Gus" in person, I will miss him greatly. He always seemed to have a new and better way of doing things that will be missed by all. Every time i tweak my "Gus" valve, I will be thinking of what he meant and did for the Turbo Dodge community.

Dear Gus, Dolores & Tanya
We see that you were first to the finish line again, but I'm not surprised. Not many people have contributed so much to so many as you have with your un-selfless dedication to the hot rodding ideal of doing more with ingenuity and skill; which is the basis of much that has made this country great. Like you I am a family man, which takes most of my resources leaving me limited ability to pursue my own 86 GLHS. Your help and guidance have helped me shoestring fun in the best way. A tear runs down my cheek as I type this. Alas Gus, you will be missed and respected. I hope you web page remains as a tribute to the values and knowledge you have given to us all.
With Deepest Sympathy to his family and friends.

Though I never personally met Gus, I did spend a lot of time reading his webpage. His page is a wealth of knowledge, and the humorous delivery just makes it that much more interesting. Gus came across as one of those people I wish I could have known - but who knows, maybe one day we'll have a chance to make a run, turbos screaming, on that great dragstrip in the sky.

Although I never met Gus in person, I was, am, and forever will be reminded of his kindness, talents, humor, and his devotion to his family.
Gus was one of the major influences in the construction of both of my FWD Mopars, and I can honestly say that words can not describe the sadness I felt upon hearing of the accident. Having had an uncle die in a biker crash myself, I can not begain to imagine or describe how sad the news was. I know that the news was felt was as much sadness and shock not just to me, but all who had the privielge of knowing Gus.
Gus will never be forgotten. I will always remeber him and his Plymouth, proving once again that good guys never finish last.
Godbless and godspeed Gus & the Mahon family.

Dolores & Tanya, Our deepest sympathy`s for your loss. It`s so hard to believe what has happened that even now a week later I struggle to find the right words to express our feelings. Gus was without a doubt one of the most wonderful and intelligent people we
ever met and we will always consider it an honor to have known him, loved him and be related to him.
I have no doubt that at this very moment he is showing God how to improve on his lightning displays.
God bless you and keep you.

Dad; there are no words that can express how I feel at the current time. What had happened has finally and completely registered in my mind, and I miss you terribly. I think of you everyday and I hope that at some time I will be able to see you again. I was very fortunate to have such a wonderful father as you for thirteen years, although I always imagined I would have you for a much longer period of time.
It eases me a little to know that the day before the accident, you were telling a friend, "I'm on top of the world." You had such a love for life; and you helped increase the joy and happiness in lives of others. I have, and will, always love you, Daddy. You have a permanent place in my heart and you shall never be forgotten. I hope that one day I can be a great person like you and Mom.
Love you forever,
Your youngest daughter Tanya.
My condolences to all of his friends.

Gus was a person that I unfortunately never met in person, but was deeply saddened to hear of his loss. My thoughts and prayers are with his family in this time. I hope they know how much he meant to so many different people across the country and the world. He was always a humble individual with a great sense of humor and full of great knowledge he was willing to share with his friends as well as strangers. I also hope they know of how much he cared for them.
May god bless you Gus and look over your family.

I never personally met Gus but was saddened deeply by the death of such a cool person. Just visiting his website and hearing about him from others gave me the picture of a man who loved his family, unexpectedly fast cars and person who was an all around fun and good guy. I wish I would have gotten to know Gus but I realize that he is in a better place now. We will all miss you Gus.

Gus was even admired by french canadian weirdos like me :)
Gus was my first contact in this turbo car hobby, without him, I would probably be collecting stamps... or even worse...
The internet Turbo Mopar community was based on Gus and we'll all miss him for a long time.

I have no words to describe how much Gus ment to all of us. I believe that only a few people are born with the special gift to be a great man and Gus was one of those people. He helped more people than I think he knew of and influenced even more. His knoledged of cars was incredible but even more incredible was his knoledge to gain the respect of MANY people just by being himself. I would email him for advice on my car and he was always willing to help out. I never got a chance to meet him but I wish I had. A chance to know a person like Gus is an honor and a blessing. My prayers are with his family and his friends. God bless you Gus, you were trully one of a kind.

Gus was not only a mentor to turbo fans worldwide, he was a fine example of what we should all strive to be: A loving husband, caring father, proud grandfather and all around wonderful and giving person.
Gus will certainly be missed, but he will never be forgotten. God's speed, Gus.

To my Pal Gus, (sorry for the length, but why should it be different than any of my other emails to you?)
As I sat in Slugmobile to write my sympathy card for your family, I wept sorrowfully as memories of the great times we shared came to mind like a flood. Flashbacks zipped through my mind of trips to the races and casino and of course all those buffets. The times we spent in your driveway preparing our cars for the races, times of you spent teaching me about turbos and your gadgets and inventions, and my first rides in Mini and Slug. How I longed that I could once again, as so often before, ride as you piloted Slug through the familiar roads near your house.
You had hundreds of people you called pals and friends. We were great friends, but you were my best friend. I hope you knew that. When I moved to NC over three years ago, it was not being away from my own family that was difficult, but it was you and yours. I took it for granted when I was close-by, and it was an easy visit. Or the many times I said to myself, "what should I do? I don't know. I better call Gus. He'll know."
In many ways I felt you were like a father to me, with your advice and pep talks when I needed them most. You were like a brother to me in how we could always understand eachother. And you were a friend to me in how we always enjoyed eachother's company whenever we had the opportunity.
Ten or so years was much too short a time to have known you. I had so very much to yet learn from you. You were my mentor and hero. It should be evident I wanted to be like you, and who better to aspire to be like?
I have not the words to adequately describe the depth of my sorrow at your loss. It is too difficult and seems insurmountable. I have wept each day since hearing this worst of news. I have lost my best and greatest friend. I don't know how I'll get through this, but I know my pain must be insignificant compared to that felt by your family at your loss. All my heart and my prayers go out to them.
Yes, Life here on Earth is but temporary. I can only hope, dream, and pray that one day I might be as patient a friend, as dedicated a son, as loving a husband, as caring a father, and as honorable a person, and might be adored and admired by so many people as you.
And, one day, I hope to have the extreme pleasure of seeing you, my best friend once again. But, alas, I shall have to wait my entire life for that day.
Godspeed buddy. May your eternal spirit rest in peace.
Forever your pal,
Wayne

I never got to meet Gus in person, but I felt that he was a very good friend. His passing weighed more heavy on my mind till I saw all of the people he touched. I know he will live on in all who ever had the privlidge of even reading an email he sent, let alone all who actually met him. He took the time to help me out on many occasions, not just email, but phone calls and parts unselfishly sent out in a hurry. Not worrying about compensation, only worrying if it had helped. Thank you GUS!
I also want to say thank you to Mrs. Mahon and their family for allowing GUS the time and space to be such a great friend to us all. May God be with you and your family in this time of grief.
Gus, please rest in peace.

Over the past few months, I consider it a honor to have had the privilege of interacting with Tom "Gus" Mahon.
He was a gifted, unselfish and caring gentleman, father, son, and grandfather. He shared with me some of life's little challenges, but always with wit, humor and dedication. What fascinated me most about Gus -- was with all he knew about going fast, Gus took the time to care about helping people. Truly, Gus was a rare and gifted individual.
Our thoughts, prayers, sympathies, and hopes go out the Mahon family in this time of deepest loss. May we all find the strength and peace to move forward in the days ahead.

Gus,
To you nobody was ever a stranger. I am so dissapointed that we never go to meet in person. Thank you for all your help, you were and are a truly great inspiration. You even affected the cars I bought (I an 89 Turbo Mini and an 89 Turbo Acclaim) I had to sell the van and the car ended up being recycled. But everytime I see a turbo van or an Acclaim I think of you.
Thanks for all your help and friendship but thanks mainly for making life a lot more fun.

A tremendous loss to all who knew him and all who never had the good fortune of meeting 'Gus'. A truly selfless, giving friend to all, who will be missed. Thanks Gus, for the coffees..the boost...the stories and the rides in the slug. Truly a heartfelt loss.

My deepest sympathies go out to all of Gus's family and friends. We have all lost a father, a mentor, and a great friend. Unfortunately words can do so little to express the sorrow that we all feel, but we can take comfort in knowing he has moved on to a better place and that we will all meet up again sometime.
