Thomas Monk Obituary

YORK Thomas A. Monk, III, 88, died on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at Manor Care – South. He was the husband of the late Betty J. (Jacobs) Monk. Born on September 14, 1921, in York, he was the son of the late Thomas A. Monk, Jr. and Marie (Spotz) Monk. Mr. Monk was a 1939 graduate of William Penn Senior High School after which he attended Franklin and Marshall College until enlisting in the in the U.S. Navy. After serving in the Navy with the amphibious forces in the South Pacific during World War II, he returned to York where he worked for three years for Goodling Electric Company and six years for York Shipley Co. He retired from York Corrugating Co. after 28 years of service as a salesman. He was a member of Advent Lutheran Church, a life member of the White Rose Lodge #706 F & AM, and a 50 year member of York Forest No. 30 T.C.L. He was also a life member of the York County Agricultural Society and the V.F.W. He is survived by two sons, Thomas A. Monk, IV and his wife, Luann of Windsor, and John S. Monk and his wife, Jean of Pataskala, Ohio; two granddaughters, Heather Sue Yon and her husband, Timothy of York, and Tabatha Altland and her husband, Jason of York; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan Yon and Myla Altland. A Masonic Service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 E. Market St., York, immediately followed by a funeral service with the Rev. Brenda M. Ritterpusch officiating. There will be no viewing. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Advent Lutheran Church, 1775 E. Market St., York, PA 17402. www.etzweiler.com
