Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 26, 2024.
Mt. Clemens - Thomas Steven Nowak, aged 74, passed away on July 21, 2024, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. Born on September 25, 1949, Tom was a lifelong resident of Mt. Clemens and an esteemed member of the educational community.

Tom graduated from Mt. Clemens High School before earning his degree from Olivet College. He dedicated 28 years to teaching Anatomy and Physiology at Chippewa Valley High School and Dakota High School, where he also authored a textbook widely used by his students. His passion for teaching was paralleled by his love for football. Tom served as the head coach and later co-head coach at Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School from 1997 to 2012, leading his teams to two Catholic League championships in 1999 and 2000 and achieving nine MHSAA playoff appearances.

Beyond his professional life, Tom was a devoted husband to Judy, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage filled with travel and the joy of caring for many adopted dogs. A proud and loving father, he leaves behind his son and best friend, Jesse.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral services. Judy and Jesse-
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I remember when the three of you came out to the cottage when we were up for the summer; and seeing Tom also when he had the men's clothing business, and seeing him in his store. We exchanged work stories at the time, as I worked one-year at a men's clothing store in Florida in the summer months while I was in college. Lastly, I Recall when you and Tom first dated, when the Wichs would come up to Michigan and spend time in Mt. Clemens at 980 Crest, 850 Huntington, and/or at 530 Maloney in Oxford. One time a few years ago, Rene and I came over to see you and Tom for a visit at your home. Totally enjoyable, just too short. I recall telling Tom and you about a movie, book and play named BIG FISH. The irony was when Tom had told me that had been a nickname that Tom had. [I think I sent him the book.] The name truly fit him. I don't think that I knew Tom's middle name was Steven; if I did, I had forgotten. Also ironic. Your Mom & Dad [our Uncle Steve and Aunt Jo] and now Tom"] are the guardian angels watching over you and Jesse. Hugs to you both. Love you. Don Wich Jr.

Knowing Tom was a joy. Before becoming an educator, Tom studied in the field of chiropractic medicine. To our advantage he changed his career path. Tom was passionate about his field of science and ensured that "all" students understood the curriculum. He made extra time for everyone. A dedicated man, great personality, terrific sense of humor, that is Tom Nowak. My deepest sympathy to Tom´s beautiful wife and son.

I have great memories of Tom! He was always friendly and inviting. No matter who was around he would take the time to say Hi and talk to me. I respected his knowledge and experience. We had great times double dating: Tom and Judy with me and Tom Lesko. I wish we could have spent more time together. It is sad that as we get older we all have health problems to deal with. I´m sorry that Tom had such a heavy load of burden. I rejoice that he has risen above those burdens although we miss him so greatly in our hearts.

Tom was a very caring man and a supremely dedicated teacher and coach. Students under his care were given his best effort each and every day. He will be missed by many!

I have 65 years of memories with Tom and each one of them are filled with joy and laughter! We met as children and grew old together! Played a lot of sports in between. Tom´s heart and caring attitude about people always stood out to me. To say I miss him is a gross understatement, however I will push forward with my 65 years of memories that will sustain me until we meet again on another basketball court!! I love you brother may you rest in peace and comfort.
