Sincere condolences for your painful loss of a wonderful man. I was a Pulmonary Clinic nurse after leaving 6 Medical Unit where I first met Dr Scanlin. I feel very privileged to have met him and Sue during CF clinic days. He was brilliant and so very compassionate. He gave personalized care to each family and changed lives from the despair at diagnosis to support for his young adults. CF life expectancy was extended due to his research and advocacy. He was a gentle soul with many interests. He expressed such joy when he met and married Sue. I was delighted to hear of your children after I left CHOP in 1995. May God bless Dr Scanlin for a life well- lived and may he rest in peace in His grace.

I'm saddened to hear of Dr. Scanlin passing. He was a great doctor and cared deeply about his patients. He was my doctor for my whole childhood on till 19 years old. Today, I'm 39 and still healthy living with CF. I'm currently seen by Dr. Hadjiliadis and his team at Penn Medicine, which, knew Dr. Scanlin and I think was taught by Dr. Scanlin. Thanks mainly to Dr. Scanlin and his team at Children's Hospital for their early intervention I wouldn't be doing so well today. I owe him a depth of gratitude. My mother and father Phil and Carol are very grateful as well. I couldn't attend any memorial service, so, I'm writing this anyway.

Sincerely,

Joshua Dischert and the Dischert family.

Dr. Scanlin will always have a special place in our hearts. He was the one that explained cf to our family. Dr. Scanlin was our daughter's Doctor starting when she was a week old (1999) till he left CHOP. When he attended the Ocean City Great Strides walk it made us so proud that he was our daughter's Doctor. I have never seen any other Doctor at that walk and we have been doing it for 25 yrs now. We will always be grateful for him and his dedication to helping his patients.
Prayers for his family .

Dr. Scanlin was the best. I believe he saved my son´s life. We met him at CHOP and then we followed him to Rutgers. He was our doctor until my son aged out. I will forever be grateful to him.

I posted a picture of Tom from our old Bishop Egan 1963 high school yearbook earlier today but forgot to include a comment. So here is what I wanted to say. Tom was one of the first individuals I met when we entered Bishop Egan High School over 60 years ago. After high school many years passed before our paths crossed again when we met at class reunions and gatherings with old friends. A great guy then and throughout his life. By the way the caption on the photo reads as follows: "A three-year veteran of the cross-country wars, Senior Tom Scanlin, as usual, places among the top five in the Suburban Catholic League Championships". A champion in life and in his life's work. Thank you, Tom for sharing a small part of your life with me.

Our family was introduced to Dr. Scanlin 41 years ago at CHOP. He taught us that Cystic Fibrosis was not to be feared, a chronic disease, to be sure. He did so much for so many. We saw him some months back at a CF fundraiser. He never shared his own medical battles. I have no more words. I´m certain that Sue knows how the Hollin family felt about Tom.

I was Tom's teacher and Track and Cross Country coach at Bishop Egan High School. Many years later I started donating platlets at Childrens Hospital. One day after donating I was going down the stairs to the garage and I heard a voice call "Mr. Krueger, Mr. Krueger". I went back up and met a distinguished man in a full beard who announced, "It's me Tommy Scanlin". We talked for a while and I had to go and I said to Tommy, "Tommy call me Gene". To which Tommy responded, "Oh no, you will always be Mr. Krueger or Coach to me". Needless to say it made my day.
