Thomas Schermerhorn Obituary

Dr. Tom Schermerhorn, age 80, passed away Dec. 17. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for more than 40 years. Tom graduated from the Virginia Military Institute and the Medical College of Virginia. He served in the U.S. Air force as a flight surgeon and practiced ophthalmology.here in Atlanta. He is survived by his wife Landora, sons Thomas Jr. and Jeffrey (Diane), daughters Kathy (Tom) Coffey and Patricia (Clif) Callaway, sisters Carolyn Lucy, Helen (Phin) Wood and 8 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta on Dec. 27 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Salvation Army - 1101A North Thornton Ave., P.O.Box 1463, Dalton, GA 30722

Dr Schermerhorn was a wonderful doctor who saved my daughter's eyes. He was a visionary with a delightful sense of humor.

World's largest retina photograph collection! Amazing designs of concave mirrors! Unbelievably committed to his patients, family, and friends!
We talked about medicine, about music, about health food, and about mutual friends such as Dr. Bill Saunders. He gave me tours of his photo collections, his family pics, and details about the physics of the equipment used for exams. However special he made me feel, I've no doubt he extended that same kind of generosity to all he met.
While I have thought of him often, it was only today I did an Internet search that led me to here. He inspired me then; he continues to inspire me to this day...
