THOMAS J.
77, of Aberdeen, SD, died February 21, 2013 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen. A private family service will be held at a later date in Pennsylvania with burial in Allegheny Memorial Park in Pittsburgh, PA. An attorney specializing in securities and international law, Mr. Schuchert was admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, California, and New Mexico. In his career, Mr. Schuchert served as chief prosecutor and tried 50 homicide cases in Pennsylvania. He was also employed as a consultant by lenders to troubled companies and served as the CEO of an aerospace company in Los Angeles and a public company in Pennsylvania. Mr. Schuchert served as an arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association, the National Association of Securities Dealers, and a variety of other arbitral bodies. He was a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London, England. A graduate of St. Vincent's Prep and the Business School of the University of Pittsburgh, he received his JD from Duquesne University and his LLM in International Law from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Mr. Schuchert served as a member and the chair of the Board of Trustees of La Roche College in Pittsburgh, PA. He also taught in the Administration and Management Division of La Roche College. He recently moved from Jackson, New Jersey where he was a Visiting Professor at the Georgian Court University School of Business in Lakewood NJ. His courses were international in emphasis, including International Finance, International Economics, and International Trade Law at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Mr. Schuchert had a special fondness for quarter horses and border collies, and particularly favored his champion border collie, Robert the Bruce. He is survived by his spouse, Dr. Margaret A. Huber, current President of Presentation College in Aberdeen, SD and former President of both La Roche College and Notre Dame de Namur University. He is also survived by his sister, Alice Clark of Naples, FL; his brother, Joseph Schuchert of Newport Beach, CA; and his five children, Thomas J. Schuchert, Jr. of Allison Park, PA, Steven Schuchert of Greensburg, PA, Dr. Barbara Clouser of Wexford, PA, Dr. Matthew Schuchert of Sewickley, PA, and Dr. Sharon Perry of Pine Grove Mills, PA. CARLSEN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY of Aberdeen has been entrusted with arrangements.
