Thomas Robert Sheldon

My sympathy to Tom's family and friends. I was sad to hear of his passing. I was a classmate of his at OLCHS. I fondly remember him and his special gift to us, his voice. I shared a few classes with Tom. Sometimes in gym or speech class he would spontaneously recite from memory a monologue such as the historic radio broadcast of the Hindenburg blimp crash. I would smile because you knew he was passionate about radio broadcasting.
After all these years I can still remember his voice doing the daily announcements. Tom was definitely a part of my high school experience.

Tom was a year behind me at OLCHS. I remember him doing the student announcements every day. He would be in the window of Mr Wiltshires Office. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
I guess this is, "Radio Station KTRS, signing off."

I have a Christmas Eve memory of Tom from my short stint in Mount Vernon in the mid-1980s. What started as a late-afternoon trip to drop off a mutual friend at the train station (in Centralia, I believe) ended up an hours-long vigil at a club waiting with our friend while his train was delayed in the frigid December night. We didn't keep in touch much after Mount Vernon and that's my loss.
Please accept my deepest sympathies.

My brother and I remember Tom from H.S. We'd hear him every morning on the P.A. I also remember his green army coat that never left his body. He was truly a great guy. Steve&Danielle Bourbeau

Tom began his radio days when we were in high school together: he read the daily student announcements over the intercom (ending each one with "Thank you, and have a good day"); and we competed together on the forensics team, where he took 1st in state in Radio Speaking in 1973. At SIU, he continued in radio--I wonder what happened to all those voice checks I did for him our freshman year. After more than 35 years, I'd know that voice anywhere.

I didn't know Tom well, but I remember how hard he worked when I listened to rewinding tapes in the production room of WIDB at SIU. What a voice! And what a passion he had for what he loved to do. My sincere condolences to those closest to him.

Although it's been a long time since I saw him in person or shared any part of his personal life he had a profound effect on my life and I always loved him as a brother. That friendship is as real to me today as it was then. He was a remarkable,unique person. My heart goes out to Alicia and Tami.

Our paths only crossed breifly at SIU but Tom left a vivid impression on me with his passion and talent for radio. I was very sorry to hear the news.

I lives across the hall from Tom in his apartment building for a few years. We adopted a calico cat we names "Kallye" when she was pregnant. Kallye went between my apt and Toms until she finally decide to have her kittens in Tom's printer paper box one afternoon. Tom knocked on my dood and said, "hey we are grandparents come and see the babies". I still have Kallye and she loved Tom so much. He loved on her and kissed her before we moved to Iowa.
Tom and I had stayed in contact. His pride and joy was his daughter Alicia. He loved you so much Alicia. His heart was as big as the sun. His caring manner towards people was very evident when you heard him on the radio.
In an email last week he proudly told me about things Alicia activities. Wishing me and Kallye a Merry Christmas. His emails always included setiments about Kallye.
Alicia you father touched so many lives. Proudly remember Tom and knowing he loved you more than anything.

To the family and friends of Tom Sheldon... I send my deepest sympathy. I remember Tom from HS days with fond memories. He made all the overhead announcements during first period classes and made everyone laugh with his witty delivery and interpretations of the day's news. We would have lunch together often and he was my acting partner in one of the school plays held in the 'Little Theater.' Although we didn't stay in touch over the years I will always remember him as a good friend indeed. He will be missed I am sure.

I met Tom years ago when he first read ads (way back) for Peacock Printing. I will miss Tom's voice on the radio and also seeing him around town, at Cedarhurst, and other places where he would broadcast on location from the van. I ran into him recently at a local store and chatted a bit. He spoke of his daughter and I could feel he was very proud of her.
