Thomas Buckwalter SMART, M.D. Born May 17, 1920 in American Fork, Utah, Tom Smart passed away June 30, 2009. Tom was known for his generosity, optimism, devotion for his wife and family, and for his endless energy and boundless spirit, having dedicated his life in service to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The eternal optimist, Tom loved life and the world around him. We will miss him greatly. Tom served in the medical/dental corps of the US Navy during World War II, graduated from and taught at the Univ. of Washington School of Medicine, and helped establish Seattle's Polyclinic. His interests included showing Arabian horses, boating, fishing, and crab fishing. He also loved golfing, cooking great meals, and visiting family and friends. He is survived by his loving companion and wife of 64 years, Beverly Bean Smart of Bellevue, daughters Dotti Toone (Tom), Marjean Smart, Carol Fairbanks (Gene), Joanne Robinson(L. Carl), son Gary Smart (ReNel), 29 surviving grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren, siblings Margaret Eyring, Mildred DeLong, William B. Smart, and Richard Smart. Viewings will be held at the LDS Stake Center, 14536 Main St., Bellevue, Sunday July 5 from 7-8:00 p.m., and Monday July 6 from 10-11:00 a.m., followed by Memorial Services at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Thomas and Beverly Bean Smart endowment at the Monte L. It's hard to imagine a family gathering without Uncle Tom there to offer a prayer, tell a story, or bring things to order with a warm welcome. I will miss him! Sending love to you all.
