I'm a Vietnam infantry vet who ran up on his two World War II books at a used bookstore in Tupelo, Mississippi, probably in the mid 1990's. I loved Bill Mauldin books, especially Up Front but all his others, too, and when I saw these two I figured I'd love them, too. I did, and they're on my keeper shelf right next to Mauldin's books. Just ordered Old Tim's Estate from Abebooks and looking forward to getting it. Never knew Mr. St. George but definitely enjoyed the two books. Decided to do a little pointing and clicking about him just now and found this obituary. I know it's several years, but decided to express both admiration and condolences. "Friend" was the least inapplicable option for relationship so I checked that one. I certainly would have enjoyed being his friend, though. Thought about "neighbor" since Jesus says we're all neighbors in a spiritual sense, but figured friend would suffice.

Hi Andrea! Sorry for your loss. It's so hard to loose a parent.
I think back to grade school and remember the first book you wrote! Now I know where you got your talent. Take care. Hope to see you at our 50th if there is one.
