I knew Tom as a graduate student at the University of Chicago in musicology. We had in common that we had both attended Amherst College. He was insightful and friendly always, and was also a gifted musician. We had many conversations about life, relationships and career as we sat in the dreary break room at the University of Chicago library. They often ended with laughs. I stumbled across his obituary while looking for him on the internet because I wanted to see him again. My thoughts are with Mickey and his children.

Tom was one of the kindest, most loving human beings I have ever met. He had the soul of a musician and artist but the empathetic heart of a sibling and parent who understood what it meant to love and care for people who were not average. He adored his family and I wish his them strength and comfort. Tom was an extended member by choice for many other families with autistic members who sought his friendship and companionship. I will miss him terribly.

My thoughts and prayers are with you guys during this difficult time!! Love can travel miles away, just like time does during night and day! But as love travels miles apart, it still has a solid place in the heart!!!
