GREAT SOLDIER, GREAT FRIEND

I worked with Thomas W. Stewart as part of the 2/2 ACR. He was first in everything he had his soldiers do. An honorable man and someone I would have followed into battle with. Every Wednesday was War Chart Day. The maps were placed front and center and for hours LTC Stewart analyzed his maps. Sometimes I would catch him moving a pin, looking over his new war plan, thinking over the possibilities of what could be. Most times I would see his hand come up again to move the pin back to where it had started. He questioned his judgement, measured his wisdom, and judges again. I never saw another officer take so much time with what ifs. It was an honor to work for a man of high caliber. Blessings to him and his. L E Estrella (Cisneros)

Tom Stewart was a great soldier and an Outstanding Cavalry Commander. In Vietnam during TET68 he was solely responsible for the air and ground support that destroyed the enemy who had entered the Provincial Capital of Pleiku. I saw him personally decorated for heroism by the Vietnamese Three Star General. Tom was wounded by gunshot to the leg and I visited him at the hospital. After I retired I ran into Tom at Ft Lewis and we have been "commissary battle buddies"
many times. Tom was a special Wartime Battle Buddy. Great American. He is missed.

It's sad that I cannot make his service, but my thoughts will be with all of you. I didn't know him too well but I know he took great care of his brother and my grandpa. I love you all.
