Thomas Taylor Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 27, 2025.
Thomas W. Taylor, age 86 of Worc MA, passed away peacefully on February 16,2025 with his daughter Laura by his side.

Tom was born on December 5, 1938 in Waltham MA.

His parents were Leonard & Mary Taylor of Waltham, and a brother Richard Taylor of Houston TX.

Tom met the love of his life, Judith (Millett) Taylor during college at U Mass Amherst, while visiting Judy's Nursing school in Springfield MA. They were married in 1960 and had 7 children!

Robert, Laura, Cheryl, Michele, Marlise, John, and Michele's twin Michael, who passed away as a baby and was deeply loved and missed. Tom also had 13 grand children.

Tom was very dedicated to his career as Worcester Parks & Recreation Commissioner from 1975-1996 and Waltham prior. He loved to talk about his parks; Elm Park, Institute Park, Green Hill Park, (and Prospect hill in Waltham) to name a few. Tom started the annual First Night in Worcester! There is a Bench & Tree planted at the Hope Cemetery in his honor for his 22 years of dedication to the city.

Tom loved all sports. He played Ice Hockey for college at U Mass Amherst. Later, he coached the Embassy Trophy baseball team in the Connie Mack League in Waltham, Ronnie Recs and The Worcester Warriors team of Stan Musial.

At home, he loved gardening and caring for his many pets. From breeding his birds, to his and Judy's little dogs and fish tanks, they enjoyed attending dog & bird shows. They won many awards for their prized beauties.

He took his wife Judy anywhere she liked. From visiting their grand children, to antiquing and visiting Montaque & Turners Falls, (where Judy was from,) and their vacation home in Alton Bay, NH, they enjoyed many good years together. In the later years, Tom was a great care giver to Judy as she went through Dialysis, and always helping her to look like her beautiful self every day.

We are sure that he is so happy to be with her once again in heaven to look over all of us together.

Services will be private.

Donations may be made in his honor to his favorite Worcester Program ILWA.org or the American Kidney Fund.

Tom Taylor was the father christmas to the children of waltham in winter. Tom is so very much appreciated for all of his efforts in putting together the skit tow at prospect hill. The Jaycees built the lodge with a huge fireplace. I told him many times because I wanted him to know how appreciated he was for providing all the joy we had at prospect hill skiing. Im so very sorry to see news of Toms passing wished i knew sooner. Id chat with him on fb enjoyed all his fresh flower photos. He was so good to his wife. He had me check on his infant son's gravestone at Mt Feake. I would give him the news of Waltham. May he be happy with his lovely wife in Heaven. A great man. Sincerely, Maureen King Waltham

Tom was my mentor at the Parks and Recreation Department. He was passionate about his job and maintaining the City parks and offering activities and events for all to enjoy. He was a humble man who cared less about recognition than the excellent job he did. I am grateful for having him as my boss and friend. He will be fondly remembered.

Just minutes ago learned of Tom´s passing and belatedly express my condolences to his family.
Tom was the epitome of a public servant in every sense of the word. May his ethic in work and in life continue in others
May he rest eternally in the palm of His hand, along side his beloved wife!!!

Tom was a true friend and dedicated Parks Commissioner in Worcester.
We worked together for many years on a great number of events and park projects. Years later I served on the Parks Commission with Rob Antonelli
the current head of the Parks Dept. for 6 years. I'll never forget Tom, he was an amazing and caring person. RIP my friend.

Tom and I grew up together in Warrendale, a part of Waltham.
He was a wonderful athlete, a good friend, lover of his dogs, and a terrific Recreation Director. His parents were always supportive of him and his older brother Dick(Zach), who married my dear friend Beth.
Tom adored his wife and his family.
My condolences to the entire family.

Tom's passing is a loss for the entire City of Worcester. His position as Parks Commissioner was his passion, not just a job. Working with Tom on so many parks related projects we also became good friends. His legacy will live on forever. RIP my friend. You'll be greatly missed here, but now reunited with the love of your life Judy. I'll never forget you my friend!
