Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 20, 2015.
Mr. Thomas D. Wilson, Jr., age 88, passed away early Sunday morning, April 19, 2015 at Spalding Regional Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Spalding County on March 16, 1927 to the late Thomas Dilsworth Wilson, Sr. and the late Nancy Irene Stanton Wilson.
Thomas graduated from Spalding High School in 1945 and attended the University of Georgia. He briefly worked at the Georgia Experiment Station in Griffin and served on the Board of Directors of the Spalding County Farm Bureau. Thomas also owned and operated Spalding Tractor and Equipment in Experiment, Georgia. He was a Master Mason for over 50 years and an Emeritus member of the Ringgold Lodge #90. His life work, however, was centered on farming with his father and two of his brothers on the family farm in Northeast Spalding County, near the Henry County community of Luella. When not farming, Mr. Wilson was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by two brothers: Roy T. Lloyd, Jr. and his wife Frances, and William Parker Wilson, Sr.; two other sisters-in-law; Nancy Birdsong Wilson and Joanne Buntyn Snelling Wilson, a niece Susan Anne Wilson and several cousins. He is survived by two brothers: George L. Wilson and Frank S. Wilson, Sr. and his wife Emily; a sister-in-law Georgia Wilson Jones and her husband Bob. He is also survived by the nieces and nephews whom he loved as his own: Doug Lloyd (Martia), Stan Lloyd (Joann), Steve Wilson (Betty), Rev. Dan Wilson (Kathy), Betty Wilson Ochs (Howard), Ann Wilson Bass (James), William P. Wilson, Jr. (Jackie), Lori Wilson Drake, Mike Wilson, Judy Wilson Dixon, Beth Wilson Griffin (David), Frank S. Wilson, Jr. (Melissa), Emily Wilson Ebinger (David), Jeff Snelling (Amy), Cathy Snelling and Shannon Snelling Shrewsbury (Rick). A multitude of great-nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews also survive. "Uncle Tommy" was the glue that held the large family together.
Services will be conducted for Thomas D. Wilson, Jr. at Locust Grove United Methodist Church on Peeksville Road, Locust Grove where he was a lifelong member. The family will receive visitors at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21st at the church and services will follow at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Buckman and the Rev. Dan Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made in Thomas's name to the American Cancer Society or to the Locust Grove United Methodist Church.

Thinking of the Wilson family and saddened by the passing of their beloved "Uncle Tommy".

We are thinking of Uncle Tommy and the Wilson family today. I always loved talking with him about the old days, and hearing about the way things once were. I remember him telling me one time that he remembered back in the 30's when only a single car would travel by his home (Hwy. 155) in about a 5 or 10 minute period or longer! ....more like hundreds an hour now I suppose...He was loved and will be missed.
