Timothy Gowan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 24, 2023.
We mournfully announce the passing of Timothy Jerome Gowan, 53. Timothy passed away suddenly on the morning of July 8, 2023 in Richmond, VA. Timothy was the bright light that colored our world with his vivacious artistic flare and with his contagious smile. He will be profoundly missed by his wife, many friends and family members. We are completely devastated for his unexpected loss and miss his amazing presence and generous spirit in our lives.

Timothy graduated from Garden City High School in 1989 and Syracuse University in 1994 with a professional degree in Architecture. He worked in healthcare architecture in NYC for decades before moving to Richmond, VA in his latest role as a Principal and Regional Director at Baskervill Architect. He imprinted the world with his original energy and boundless appetite for curiosity and discovery.

Timothy was born on April 2, 1970 in Flushing, Queens. He was predeceased by his parents, Kathleen Deacy and Joseph Gowan. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Nelson-Gowan, and his siblings Joseph, Thomas (Donna), Tricia Kelly (John), Dan, and Sean (Elvia), all of New York. He also leaves behind six beloved nieces, nephews, many cousins in the U.S., Ireland and England and uncles and aunts.

A funeral will be held on July 28, 2023 at 9:45 a.m. at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 130 5th St, Garden City, NY 11530, all are welcome to attend.

Timothy was a contributor in the NYC skyline and healthcare architecture. An artist and lover of life. He is leaving his legacy through his art work, his impact to the healthcare architecture industry in NYC and VA and the countless relationships he built throughout his life.

After graduating from Syracuse University with a degree in Architecture, he began his incredible professional journey. He was a hard worker, completely committed to his craft as an architect and as an artist. He colored life like a brush stroke on an empty canvas. He was a community builder and somebody who always went the extra mile in every endeavor. He taught many of us what true service is and its impact. He volunteered extensively in his communities. He was a great mentor to many. He was a true artist with his natural essence of curiosity, openness, and creativity. His imagination was boundless. He was an explorer, a traveler, a creator, a collaborator, and such an inspiration. He questioned the mysteries of life with abandonment and courage and always sought comfort in divine's grace and love. He had a contemplative nature. He was a committed Buddhist practitioner and meditator which is perhaps what guided the beguiling treasures he painted on his canvases. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Timothy knows the profound loss this is for the world, his wife and family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the ASPCA or the Heart Association, in honor of his memory.
