Timothy Knipe Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 18, 2025.
Timothy Dane Knipe, 67, passed away on May 13, 2025, in Maryland Heights, Missouri. A devoted caretaker and selfless individual, Timothy lived a life marked by service-to his country, his community, and those he held dear.

Born on November 3, 1957, in Omaha, Nebraska, Timothy was raised with strong Midwestern values that would guide him throughout his life. He graduated from Lewis Central High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa, before earning a Bachelor's degree in Business Management from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. His commitment to education continued with a Master of Science in Public Administration from Troy State University's European Division.

In 1976, Timothy began a distinguished military career by enlisting in the United States Air Force as an Airman Basic. His service took him across the globe-from basic training in San Antonio, Texas, to assignments at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska; Incirlik Air Base in Turkey; Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma; Lakenheath Royal Air Force Base in England; and Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. Over the course of more than three decades of honorable service, he rose through the ranks and retired as a Major in 2010.

Following his military retirement, Timothy transitioned into civilian leadership roles with the same dedication and integrity that defined his time in uniform. He owned and managed Knipe's Fork and Spoon in Belleville, Illinois for three years before joining Mercy Hospital in Saint Louis as Director of Nutrition and Culinary Services. In 2014, he was promoted to Regional Director for Mercy East communities-a role he held until his retirement in December 2019.

Timothy's devotion to others extended far beyond his professional life. He was deeply involved with his family and played an active role in the lives of all his 13 nephews, 11 nieces, and 37 great-nephews and nieces. He is lovingly remembered by his sisters Regina Matthews (David), Patricia Cherniss (Jack), Kandy Knipe, Sandra Knipe Craig (Charles), Cassandra Friesen (Delbert), and brother Thomas J. Knipe (Sandra). He was preceded in death by his father Richard J. Knipe; mother Mary Louise (Noonan) Knipe; brothers Richard D. Knipe, Michael J. Knipe, Casey J. Knipe; and sister-in-law Sandra K. (Spencer) Knipe.

A passionate sports enthusiast, Timothy was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos and the Saint Louis Cardinals. One of his proudest personal accomplishments was visiting every Major League Baseball stadium across the United States alongside close friends-a testament to both his love for the game and the value he placed on friendship.

In recent years, Timothy found joy fostering puppies through the Humane Society-another reflection of his lifelong compassion for others. Whether caring for animals or supporting charitable causes close to his heart such as the Sisters of Mercy or Special Olympics, he consistently put others before himself.

In lieu of a funeral or memorial service, the family requests that donations be made in Timothy's name to one of these organizations or any charity of your choice.

May Timothy Dane Knipe's memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire acts of kindness and service for years to come.

Tim was a kind soul and a good man. He carried on the Mercy mission like no other lay person I know. Like so many have said, Tim put others´ well-being before his own personal gain. A true servant of Jesus, he is now celebrating in Heaven with all the Mercy sisters that have gone before us, marked by a sign of faith.

I am saddened to hear of Tim's passing, as I literally was just speaking of him yesterday about how he blessed me with milkshakes when I was in for my c-section births!
What a blessing it was to meet and to know Tim. I am forever grateful to have been able to work alongside him at Mercy. He held high the Mission and the work of Mercy especially as a leader and a servant to many. I will always remember his infectious laugh, his commitment to see and to greet his coworkers and employees by name while asking them how they were doing, and his concern to go that extra mile to help someone in need. He was a true hero for so many reasons. We need more "Tim Knipes" in this world today. Thank you, Tim, for shining your bright light into our lives. Well done, good and faithful servant....well done!

Bill and I were both privileged to have had a close working relationship with Tim during all of our years at Mercy. He was the true embodiment of the Mercy values as defined by the Sisters of Mercy. His focus was never on himself and his own gain. It was always on others and equal opportunity. Mercy lost one of the best when he left there and the world lost one of the best when he left here.

The world is a better place because of Tim Knipe. I was privileged to work at Mercy during much of the time he was there. Each of my three sons worked in food services during the summers under Tim´s direction and each remembers him very positively. Behind his broad smile was a soft and loving heart that was exemplary to all who knew him. God bless Tim!

Best human being that God ever created! I had the privilege of working alongside him. He was creative, energetic and had a passion for helping others. He employed many Developed disabled individuals as well as refugees. The world has lost a great soul! I will celebrate his wonderful life!

Tim Knipe was an extraordinary person and inspiring servant leader. We are saddened that he has left us but certain the Sisters of Mercy who have passed before us were lined up to welcome him to heaven. Blessed to work alongside Tim for several years at Mercy, I was witness to his widespread influence within support services teams. A frequent attendee at coworker family funerals and weddings, including my own, Tim knew his staff like few leaders do. A recipient of the Mercy award bestowed by the sisters themselves, Tim was hardworking, thoughtful, generous and had a knack for making sure people felt special and loved. He was always the first to wish me happy birthday for the past 18 years. I learned much about the heart of a leader from Tim Knipe. Rest in peace, Tim. You made me better for knowing you.

Uncle Tim was an amazing man-I will always remember his generosity, laugh and positive encouragement. There was never a doubt I knew he loved me and I loved him as a 2nd Father. I wish we had more time together-and will cherish the memories we did make.
