Timothy McCormick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 21, 2013.
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Timothy Cyril McCormick had a lion's heart.

It ceased to beat early on the morning of Feb. 16, when the ambulance he was driving as an EMT in Indianapolis was struck broadside at a city center intersection, flipped and caromed into a parked mini van. His EMT partner also died as a result of his injuries.

Rites have been set for the 24-year-old native of Stapleton. The funeral will be Friday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church, Tompkinsville. Burial will be in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.

Indianapolis bade farewell to its adopted son with a full-honors funeral on Tuesday.

He emerged into the world on a snowy Friday sound asleep. After that, he hardly ever slept.

He prepped at OLGC School for Regis High School where he distinguished himself by ferocious effort in the classroom and on the track.

Musically gifted, he didn't so much play the piano as attack it. Dancing in full tribal regalia with his reddish hair and Irish eyes, he made a most incongruous whirling dervish.

At Regis, he studied Mandarin and sojourned in Shanghai.

As a member of OLGC's venerable Troop 77 BSA, he achieved the distinction of Eagle Scout.

Mr. McCormick attended St. Lawrence University for two years and earned his degree in political science from Indiana University.

He joined the Indianapolis EMS in 2010; his last assignment was Medic 50.

His parents, Rosemary and Robert; his siblings, Michael, Katherine and Clare, and his partner, Alex Brinley, said they are "profoundly grateful for the gift of Tim's life and for the immense outpouring of compassion and support in Indianapolis and on Staten Island."

I didn't know Timothy, but his death has made an impact on my life. I want to possibly go into the EMS/Paramedic field. Hopefully getting started as a volunteer.

I was profoundly saddened when I heard the terrible news that Tim was killed in a car accident. And then I also became profoundly proud after reading some of the articles about him and watching his “It Gets Better” video. All of us in our family send all of you in the McCormick family our deepest love and support. I feel very fortunate to be able to count Tim as one of my relatives. He lives on in our, and many others', hearts and minds and will always be missed.

Thoughts and Prayers go out to Timothy's whole family! Heard about your tragedy on Live with Kelly and Michael! Sounds like God definitely got a Great Angel! God bless all of you!

Tim was a wonderful young man who will be missed dearly for he was kind, and caring. It was a pleasure having him over to enjoy video games with my son, Shawn. May the Lord richly bless you all and strengthen you always. He will be missed but there is hope you will see him again in Christ. God bless. Paulette Smith.

Tim was a warm and kind friend. His quick smile, intelligence and wit will be missed greatly. He is in God's arms now. Rest in Peace my friend.

Chers Robert, Rosemary, Mike,Kate and Clare,
As Didier said oh how are thoughts are with you and our overwhelming sadness too, however our memories of Tim are gloriously happy ones, especially that incredible summer weekend when there were a lot of us cousins at Brown Camp--Tim adding a Mandarin Chinese twist to the "a moi" ball game in the lake and he and Mike and Kate leading the pack in some new card game which lasted into the wee hours. And how lucky we were to visit you all in Staten Island; although only twice but they were such warm family times. We are also thinking of Jim and Aly and Sam and Kyle with whom we share these memories.
With all our love and sadness,
Cousin Meg, Didier,Paul and Alan

I just wanted to let you know how special Tim was and what an amazing EMT he was. I had the honor of working with him several times and he always had a smile on his face and a warm heart towards his patients and co workers. Tim will be sadly missed but never forgotten. We will continue to pray for your family as now you are part of ours. God bless

I was so sorry to hear of your loss. The thoughts of many are with you at this time of sorrow. Tim passed doing the job he was put on this earth for helping others in their time of need. His life has touched many near and far and his memory will live on in those he saved, worked with and touched every day. May you find comfort in the memories, smiles and laughs.

Robert John:

We learned the awful news about Timothy from the McCormick's, as they were contacted by your brother.

Loosing a family member is sad but the worst is loosing a child; especially
so young as Timothy. May God fill you and your family with the grace needed to get you thru this very sad time.

Being in Florida, I am sorry that I can't be at his Mass but I sent a Mass
Card to the house. God be with you.
