I want to extend my condolences for the passing of Officer Tim O'Brien.

I never knew him personally - never knew his name. And he certainly did not know me, nor would he have been likely to remember seeing me a thousand times.

During the years I attended Duquesne University, I had occasion to pass his corner, at Grant Street and Sixth Avenue, two or four times every day.

I had a part-time job Downtown at the old Eiben & Irr retail store and would dash down there to work for an hour at lunchtime and then again after classes.

For four years I saw Tim directing traffic at his primary site and always found him to be extremely affable with me and with everyone else.

What a good guy. And what a positive image he presented of Pittsburgh to anyone who saw him on the job.

Many years later, when that intersection was reconfigured, I often wondered if he had retired.

When I saw the Post-Gazette obituary, I recognized Tim from the 1971 photograph immediately. Except in the early 1960s, I believe, he wore wire-frame glasses.

Even though I hadn't seen him in probably 41 years, I was saddened to learn of his passing, and so I share in your sorrow.

I'm having a Mass said for him at St. Matthias in Evans City, Pa.

Just wanted you to know how highly Tim was regarded even by folks who didn't know him by name.

God bless you and your family.

To the O'Brien family,

I wanted to extend my deepest sympathy to your family during this difficult time. Timmy and my dad (Tom Connors) have been friends for over 40 years and I was able to grow up knowing Timmy as well. As long as I can remember, TImmy has always been my dad's good friend. As a young girl, I always loved seeing TImmy because he used to give me a pack of gum every time I saw him. And I was thankful that he and Shirley were able to attend my wedding not just for me but for my dad as well. He was a wonderful friend and I am thankful that my dad was lucky enough to have him in his life. God Bless you during this time.

To the O'Brien Family

Death may have selfishly robbed you of the joys and blessings of "Timmy's" presence but not of the many memories and the spiritual impact of his absence. As a young lawyer, I looked forward to his daily greetings as I strolled along Grant Street. I am sorry I wasn't able to at least have been at St. Pius for the funeral mass but know that he is, and will be, remembered in my prayers. I know he is resting comfortably in the palms of HIS hands.

Deepest sympathies to Timmy O'Brien's family from Jack Reissman who's brother Bob (Doc) Reissman was in the Lawrenceville guys that grew up together and went into the service together in WW2 with Timmy.

My brother died at age 72.

Lawrenceville was a happy place to grow up in those days.

I know that Timmy has the peace that will come to all of us in time.

I'm sorry to hear about the passing of "Big Tim" and send my sympathies to you and your family.

It's been a long time since we were kids playing in the field next to your old house up in Garfield but I do remember your Dad fairly well. He always had a kind word, smile and seemed willing to help us out whenever he could. He will be missed.

I was so sorry to hear about the death of Timmy. He was my sister's godfather and my fathers very best friend. I didn't hear about his passing until this morning and I am devestated as I cannot attend his funeral service. Shirley, please know that I will be praying for you and your family. I know what it is like to lose someone so close and I remember well you and Timmy coming to my mom and my dad's funeral and how much it meant to me.

To the O"Brien Family,

The family of Joe Tysarczyk wishes to extend its deepest sympathy on the passing of your husband and father. Although, we've only met "Timmy" a handful of times, he was always so gracious to our family, and my parents spoke so fondly of him that we felt like we knew him better than we did. We will keep your family in our thoughts and prayers as you mourn the loss of such a wonderful soul.

God Bless,

Patty "Tysarczyk" Popek and family

I'm visiting Jennifer in Wilmington, Delaware and won't be able to pay my respects but I want you to know that you are in my thoughts and in my prayers. God Bless You, Jeanie Ondik
