I had the great privilege of pitching in the 14 year old all-star series in Chesterfield, Va. and Tim was my catcher. I was humbled to be in his presents and my memory of playing with him was like a dream. Just another game for him but a highlight in my life. I caught up with him earlier this year and was glad to see him. We had some laughs and shared some great moments. I will miss you Tim...

Tim Reid was a class act! I had the privilege of working with him when he worked for Henrico County Public Schools in our Human Resource office! He was always professional, efficient, responsive, and delightful to interact with as he supported the schools! His kind and gentle manner, honest and approachable personality were a big loss when he left! Prayers for his dear family as you adjust to your tremendous loss!

To the Reid family,
Tim was the ultimate athlete. He had maybe the best arm on the team. What a gun . Such a quick flick, perfect for the position. And so fast. To me he was on a pedestal.
Maybe now his athleticism is not so important. Please know how fondly we all thought of him and how much we'll miss him.
Sincerely,
Johnny Mizelle

I have fond memories of my youth especially my relationship with Tim as a fellow teammate and All Star. When Tim was catching, I can still see and feel the power of his arm as the ball flew from his catchers mitt back to the pitcher. Can you still feel the heat and see the fire?

We certainly had a wonderful summer together as we soared up the ranks during our All Star run. We couldnt have done it without our brother Tims help. He will certainly be missed by his family, by his friends and of course, by his fellow teammates.

Please accept my condolences. My thoughts and prayers are with the Reid family.

My heart goes out to Tims family and friends. He was an amazing, quiet and bright man. I doubt there are many people who caught a World championship baseball game with one eye. He will be missed by many.

To the Reid Family,

My condolences for your family's loss. It was a shock to learn of Tim's passing. He was an incredible player, teammate, and a great friend. Tim will be dearly missed by all of the families and friends of the TLL, but never forgotten! RIP.

First and foremost, I want to thank, from the bottom of my heart, the guys that took time to share some kind words regarding Tim. He was the youngest of five brothers, with my Dad (Luke) being the oldest. We would get together as a family every Sunday for supper, and with Tim being the youngest, he would hang with the nephews and nieces in the backyard before dinner each week. I cherished the whiffle ball games, throwing the football, games of tag, etc. My biggest takeaway from those times was how damn fast (and athletic) he was. I used to get so mad not being able to tag him! He had an amazing heart, and we will miss him dearly. Love you, Tim! Rob

I didn't know that this page existed, but I'm so glad that it has been shared with me. I have enjoyed seeing the comments from his teammates and friends from long ago. Dad carried the burden of what happened in August 1968 with him for the last 52 years, but I couldn't be more proud of what you all accomplished as a team. I never missed a chance to tell anyone who listened that my dad was in the final game of the Little League World Series. He went on to become a loving father as he, my mom, and I grew up together. He was my oldest friend and one of my greatest supporters. You'll be missed, Dad. I love you.

I had the pleasure of seeing Tim this past Christmas as I visited him at his home. We laughed and spoke of so many memories of the 68' and 71' teams. I sent him the picture with Rev. Gunning from Williamsport on the 14th of March. He passed the next day. We were used to looking up at him and now we are looking up to him. We will miss him more than he knows. My condolences to his family and friends.

On behalf of the players of the 1968 Tuckahoe Little League All-Stars of Richmond VA and as the author of a forthcoming book called Go! Go! Tuckahoe! about the team and history of Tuckahoe Little League, I want to extend my sincere condolences to the Reid family. As many of the players have stated, it's hard to think that one of the greatest thrills of their life, now 52 years later, came at the age of 12. But not one of them would trade it for the world. Tim Reid was a instrumental player on the team as the catcher and so-called field general despite only having one eye, the result of a child accident. He led with a quiet confidence and by the caliber of his play, which included cat-quick reflexes, a cannon for an arm and was a very good hitter. Based on my research, given the fact that Tim was the catcher for 11 no-hit performances during the 1968 season (five in the regular season, including one perfect game, and four during the tournament, including one perfect game, by Roger Miller and two by Hank Stoneburner), and for helping lead Tuckahoe to the title game, he is one of if not the greatest 12 year old Little League catchers ever. For an able player, this is remarkable. For a one-eyed catcher it is an astounding achievement for Tim overcame his disability with fierce determination, courage and humility. Since his former battery mate Miller passed in 2010, it is safe to say that Roger and Tim are playing catch in heaven again like the first time they met at age 10 at Tuckahoe Little League and became teammates and all-stars over six years. The book will be dedicated to their memory.

It was with much sadness that I learned of the loss of Tim. He was the consummate teammate on the 1968 and 1971 teams. Always team first. It wasn't until after seeing the 1968 final game for the first time in 50 years that I realized that Tim was clearly the best player on the field that day, Upon reflection that was usually the case. I regret not seeking him out and letting him know. My prayers to Tim's family and his nephews Luke and Rob.

Western Henrico County was forming in the late 1950's and created a wonderful and supporting community anchored by schools like Tuckahoe and Freeman and organizations like Tuckahoe Little League. It was at TLL that I met Tim and had the honour of getting to know and to play with him. On the TLL World Series run in 1968 he and battery mate Roger Miller formed an almost unbeatable (and nearly unhittable) pitcher/catcher team. Tim's catching skills were critical to the team's success. Tim was a quiet leader who preferred to let his skill and capability do most of the talking. He will be missed by all of his Freeman classmates, TLL and high school teammates, as well as the greater western Henrico community. Our prayers and thoughts are with the Reid family at this difficult time, and we hope and pray that God's grace can comfort them.

To the Reid family,
I am very sorry to hear about Tims passing. My condolences! He was an amazing guy and a great player! It was unbelievable how good he was with one eye! He was the Glue to our 68 Tuckahoe Little League World Series team, steady and dependable! We could have never made it to the final without him!
Tim will be missed, but never forgotten!

I was fortunate to have known Tim as a young baseball team mate at Tuckahoe LL. He made us all better by his example of humble leadership!

Reid Family,
It was sad to hear about Tim and wish to offer sympathy during this difficult time. Cherish those memories of Tim and have them fill the hole that you now have in your heart as a result of this loss. For many family and friends, those memories will be from his days of playing Little League baseball as the starting catcher for the 1968 Tuckahoe Little League team that played Japan in the finals of the Little League World Series. Then, in 1971, he was a member of the Tuckahoe Senior Little League team that played in the Senior Little League World Series. These memories and many others will be of comfort as you remember his life especially during this difficult time. And, to steal a line from the Irish blessing, right now the Lord is holding Tim in the palm of his hand. God bless and rest in peace.
