Tina Ewert

TINA (KLASSEN) EWERT was born September 3, 1924 in a small house in Drake, SK. She passed away peacefully on January 30, 2011 at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon, SK. Tina attended school in Drake where she later worked as a clerk in both J.J. Penner's and S.L. Funk's general stores. She lived in Drake most of her life, moving to Saskatoon in February 2008. Tina became a member of the North Star Mennonite Church in 1942. On September 22, 1946, Tina married Orin Norman Ewert, also of Drake. On their family farm, Tina enjoyed gardening, tending her raspberry and watermelon patches. She and her sister Herta organized family gatherings, Hallowe'en and skating parties, Easter egg hunts, taffy pulls, wiener roasts, and outings to Manitou beach for swimming and picnics. Summer holidays were spent at Turtle Lake with the whole Ewert clan. During their 64 happy years together, Orin and Tina travelled extensively, across Canada, wintering in the US, and to Europe, Asia, the Caribbean and Australia. Throughout her life, Tina enjoyed reading, Scrabble and jig saw puzzles, but nothing could match her favourite pastime, fishing. Tina is survived by her husband Orin; children: 1) Ann Noel (Andrew Clark) 2) Dawn (Don Epp) 3) Mary Jean (Peter Nicholson) 4) Joel (Lois) 5) Tina Colleen (Stuart Jantz); son-in-law 6) Vic (Deb) Wall; 12 grandchildren and17 great grandchildren: 1) Joel (Jess) Clark, Toby and Beth; Anna Zettie (Adam) Taylor, Rowan 2) Jessica (Todd) Petrie, Mackenzie and Taylor; Jordan (Carole) Epp, Elliott 3) Sarah (Nathan) Rinholm, Eliza and Daniel; Michael (Mia Wilton) Nicholson 4) Benjamin(Charmaine), Madelyne, Sky and Simon 5) Laurel (Rob) Reynolds, Calla and Juniper; Oliver Jantz; Caitlin (Daren) Nakoneshny, Nolan 6) Jeffrey (Mandy) Wall, Connor, Lincoln and Bastian; Darcy Wall; and sisters Annie Funk and Margaret Gerbrandt. She was predeceased by her parents Anna and Johann Klassen; sister Herta Ewert; brothers Ted Klassen and Ed Klassen; daughter Laurel Wall; and grandson Noah Ewert. A memorial service will be held in the North Star Mennonite Church in Drake, SK at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 7, 2011. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the North Star Memorial Fund or to the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). The family would like to thank Tina's doctors, nurses and all those who provided her with gentle care and attention.
