Toby Simisky Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 26, 2017.
CHESHIRE - Toby Merrill Simisky, 32, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2017, following a long battle with addiction. He is the son of Diane Billings and the late Anthony (Toby) Simisky.

He was born June 2, 1985.

He was a devoted father to Nathan Simisky; and brother, Owen Paul. He leaves behind his siblings, Emily Simisky, Alden and Tess Billings; grandparents, Arlla Simisky, Linda and Ed Billings, and the late Paul Simisky, Barbara Merrill, and Richard Tettelbach. In addition, his steadfast best friends, Brad Ryan and Kevin Hanlon; as well as many aunts, uncles; and cousins. Toby never wanted to be defined by his addiction, he was so much more than that. He was a decent, kind, caring and gentle son, father, brother, nephew, cousin and friend. He was a gifted musician with a compassionate soul and we are honored and blessed to love him.

Toby's memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 12, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 111 Church Drive, in Cheshire. In lieu of flowers we ask that you make a donation to https://rushford.org/giving or call 203-238-6807.

All my best childhood memories were growing up with Toby. Exploring the woods, playing computer games when they first came out, Mario Cart, etc. We met at recess in the 2nd grade and became best friends until I moved away in Middle School. One of my biggest regrets was not staying as close as we should have after I moved away. He was such a nice and friendly kid. Super smart. I´m not a man that cries and I´ve lost a lot of people, but I cried like a baby when Toby died. I think of him all the time.

Toby, I met you the first day of 7th grade and we instantly clicked, you were the best friend I’ve ever known and through good and bad times we were there for each other. Many days I go to pick up the phone to call you before I realize you are no longer here and it’s crushing, I miss you more than you could ever know and not a day goes by that I don’t think of you and all the great memories we had.

4 years have gone by. We didn't even have 1 year together but I still miss you so much. I'm sorry for everything. I'm sorry you are gone from this world. I'm sorry I wasn't better yet myself when we were together. You changed my life and I pray that can give a little light to you in heaven. I have faith that we will meet again one day and I pray for you. Love always and forever, Arlene

I still miss you so much. It has been 3 years now but I can still see you playing the guitar and that sly smile you liked to do. You were such a wonderful person and your death was such a loss to this world. I don't know what else to say but I love you and I hope heaven is awesome ♥

Toby was kind in a way that's so rarely seen nowadays. His kindness was genuine, as if that was the only way he'd ever considered treating people. He was funny in a subtle way. He wasn't a loudmouth cracking joke after joke to try to bring attention to himself. He waited, and thought, and when the opportunity came, he'd say something that had everyone falling on the floor laughing.

I only played music with Toby briefly, but his talent was apparent, and he was so humble about it. Connecting with him musically was so effortless, and that had a lot to do with how honest of a soul he was.

I'm thankful to have known him, if only for a few years. It didn't take long for him to make an impact on me, and I'll never forget him.

To Toby's family: My thoughts are with you at this difficult time. I hope you find some comfort in knowing that Toby was such a positive and caring influence on so many people, and the lessons learned from him will live on in others.

Love you and miss you Toby.

Toby will be greatly missed. He was a very kind and gentle soul. I met him through Kevin many years ago. My condolences to all of his family and friends. May he be at peace. This drug epidemic has taken another life. When will it end?

Toby was the best man most people including myself have ever know. He was kind, affectionate, intelligent, talented, handsome, and loving. Those words do no justice to how wonderful he was. I am grateful I got a chance to be in his life. I just wish it didn't have to end. I offer my sincere condolences to everyone touched by this tragedy. I'll always remember Toby and he will always have a place in my heart.

Toby was a great guy. I remember growing up in the Billings/Simisky house like it was my second home, being one of Alden and Tess' best friends growing up. It was never really a quiet place when we were kids, because Diane provided daycare for several friends of hers. We grew up listening to Toby jam out Green Day, and played super smash brothers on Nintendo 64 (him and Brad almost always dominated us considering they actually knew HOW to play the game). Toby used to make us instant ramen or mac and cheese when we were hungry, and it was those type of gestures that defined him as a person. Yes, Toby was an addict. Now whether or not you consider that by choice, it was his choice to be a good person or not. And he always chose to be a kind and helpful person, even when he was using. But through it all he would always still love everyone, and be as helpful as possible. That was Toby, a great guy with a great problem, and unfortunately God needed him more somewhere else than we needed him here on earth. I hope you all learned something from him like I did, which was kindness, even in your weakest of moments, is what's going to be remembered when you're gone. You are loved and missed Toby.
