Todd Foreman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 9, 2025.
Todd Michael Foreman, 54, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, after battling neuroendocrine cancer. He had his family by his side at the time of his passing, and had been surrounded by loved ones throughout his illness. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and will be greatly missed by his loving wife Kristen Hess, his beloved children Reider & Caia, and numerous relatives and friends. During his illness, Todd & his family were overwhelmed by the support of family and friends from every chapter of their lives, including the DHYS baseball and softball leagues, many friends from around the country, and the entire Decatur community.

Todd was born September 1, 1970, at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, to Richard Foreman and Janice Schremp. He spent his childhood in Panama City & Tallahassee, Florida where he was an accomplished swimmer. After graduating from high school in 1988, he attended Florida State University. He had a lifelong passion for promoting a healthier, safer, and more just society, and took a break from his time at FSU to work for the Public Interest Research Groups, training college students to organize campaigns to protect the environment and advocate for communities, as well as directing summer canvass offices for progressive causes. His dedication to such work sparked an interest in law.

He eventually completed his undergraduate degree at FSU, followed by a juris doctorate from UCLA, where he served as Chief Managing Editor for both the UCLA Law Review and the UCLA Journal of Environmental and Policy Law. He then spent several years practicing law in Los Angeles, much of that time fighting for consumers in California in insurance and regulatory matters.

That work for justice also led Todd to volunteer for Planned Parenthood, where he met the love of his life, Kristen. Kristen's devotion to public health led them to Decatur, Georgia and (along with Todd's sense of wanderlust) on a two-year adventure in Botswana. Todd relished being a husband, father, coach, and community member. He was a board member with a local urban garden nonprofit, the Wylde Center; led his neighborhood's homeowner's association for several years; and regularly organized sports and gaming events for various groups of friends.

In all his endeavors, he was dedicated and passionate. Over the last few years of Todd's life, his free time was foremost devoted to building up the DHYS softball community. He loved the time he spent on the softball field coaching, and had a special ability to connect with his players. Beyond these activities, Todd also had a passion for travel and cherished his memories of his many adventures with his family and friends-Todd was particularly proud of hiking the entire Appalachian Trail, all the way from Georgia to Maine.

The last 18 years of Todd's life was a testament to sobriety, where he found strength and community in his journey of recovery. He accepted help and gave it easily, helping others in their search for a solution to alcoholism. With honesty, open-mindedness and steadfast courage, he recast himself as a responsible adult, continued to grow, and ultimately created the loving, fulfilling family life with Kristen, Reider and Caia that he had long desired.

Todd's final and perhaps most lasting gift was donating his remains to Emory's Medical School to advance medical knowledge and training, with the hope of developing new cancer treatments and improving oncology patient care.

A celebration of Todd's life and memorial reception will be held at 12:30 PM on Saturday, April 19th at the Ebster Recreation Center in Decatur, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, consider contributing to Reider and Caia's college funds. Friends and family can make gift contributions at https://www.ugift529.com/ and enter their unique Ugift codes: 89Q-Y5C for Reider and M5J-X8H for Caia.

Had a chance to work with Todd for a little while in Los Angeles. A smart, dedicated lawyer, more importantly, person. And most importantly, a man completely dedicated to his family. Per usual, when not working together, one loses contact. I was so heartbroken to hear of Todd's passing. But his legacy continues. All the best to his family.

My sincere condolences to Todd's family and friends. I didn't know him but had to chance to "know him" through his family who shared some wonderful memories with me.

Whenever we needed a volunteer, Todd was there. Every time I saw him, Todd was smiling. Whenever we spoke, Todd was brimming with enthusiasm and optimism. Todd made everyone he met feel like part of his community. What wonderful traits to share with the world; what a wonderful legacy. Our Botswana Embassy community was so privileged - I was so privileged - to know Todd. To Kristen, Reider, and Caia, thank you for sharing him with us and allowing us to glimpse how lucky you were to have him as a husband and father. To Todd, thank you for shining your light on all of us.
