Tom Brown, a two-time Super Bowl champion with Vince Lombardi's Green Bay Packers who also played a season of Major League Baseball, died April 23, 2025, at the age of 84.
Despite his success in the NFL, Brown was more drawn to baseball than football, playing the latter in order to pay his way through college. A star player at the University of Maryland, he was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 1962, but opted to play baseball instead, signing with the Washington Senators. He lasted just a season, switching back to football and starting a successful six-year career as a safety, five of them with the Packers. Brown's interception in the 1966 championship game helped the team nail down its run of three straight NFL titles from 1965 to 1967, the latter two being Super Bowl wins. He followed Lombardi to the Washington Redskins in 1969, but he played just one game before being released. After retirement, he ran the Tom Brown's Rookie League in Salisbury, Maryland.
His son, James Christopher Brown, paid tribute to him on Facebook: "Even though he was a great athlete and did a lot for the community of Salisbury, he was a great dad." Friend Mike Lambert shared similar sentiments, saying, "Tom had a great life and was a kind soul … I'll never forget our many trips to Packer reunions, autograph signings and even the Indianapolis 500. RIP my friend!"

So sorry to hear of Coach Browns passing this past Spring. My condolences to his family. I was lucky enough to be coached by him at SSU. I will always remember his "3 plays in a game that make a difference" that he would review both during and after the game. He was a great teacher and had a calm and controlled disposition regardless of what was happening on the field. Rest in peace.

Coach Brown was one in a million and had a heart of gold. I I was truly taking back when I hear of his passing and I was so sorry that I couldn't attend his memorial. I learn so much from him as he coached me while I played at Salisbury University. I truly learned how to be a man with a humble heart from him. I send my condolences to his wife and family. Are you enjoy playing catch on the sidelines before games with his son Christopher and seeing his daughter Jesse play basketball in high school. He'll be truly missed and I'm not just saying it for myself but for the whole Gull community who had the privilege of playing under him. I miss and love you coach rest in peace.
