I just found out that Tom passed away last year when I sent him my annual email about Tom publishing my Mother's book "The Railroad That Died At Sea" by Pat Parks. I was checking in to see if it was perhaps time for a reprint as Amazon is out of stock and only second hand book sellers have copies. I am so very sorry about Tom. Toni Parks Olsen

I was fortunate to have met Tom in the mid 80´s at many Shelby and Mustang events. When he was editor of Mustang Times he wrote an article with pictures of my 1965 Shelby GT 350 (sfm5S241) and included it in the magazine. Later at a Shelby meet at Wakins Glenn in the 90´s I gave his son Sebastian a ride in my vintage racer sfm5S274 . We spent some times talking that afternoon. I will allways be grateful for our conversations and memories, Tom was the best, RIP. Sorry for being so late with this but my life was a little better for knowing him.

I just found out about Tom's death through author Chip Bell. Tom (and Alex Rutledge) began my obsession with Florida...and in particular Florida Keys fiction. As a several times a year traveler to the middle Keys and Key West...I came to appreciate Tom's easy storytelling, transporting me back to the Keys when I couldn't be there. His legacy is so many places. He will be greatly missed.

Longtime reader of Tom's books and work on Buffett's albums. Always wanted to ask him about his writing credit on "Cuban Crime of Passion." Never got the chance to ask, as our paths never crossed. I'm a writer myself, but never dabbled in fiction. I wrote 5 travel guidebooks on Island destinations and traveled to the Keys on numerous occasions. RIP Tom!!

I am just learning of Tom´s passing and offer my deep condolences to his family. I´ve known Tom since the early 70s, when we both worked the airwaves at different radio stations in Key West. We stayed in touch with each other over years and would relive our time there. Tom was a good and talented man and my good friend. I will miss him always.

I´m heart broken hearing this news. I never met Tom; just read his books many times, and exchanged a few emails. I can´t believe this kind man is gone. I´ll cherish his books and read them all again, starting today. Odd, how grief can hit you when you´ve never met someone. I´m deeply sorry for your loss.

So Sorry for your loss, as a fellow Miami U grad, and now a resident of Key West . We had 2 great things in common. I have enjoyed his books.

As a bookseller in the Upper Keys I had the opportunity to meet Tom when he would stop in Hooked on Books on his way to Key West. Wonderful gentleman! Can the family contact me about getting his books for Sandbar Bookstore in Tavernier(Upper Keys). Thanks.

Greetings and warm memories Tom from all my years living in Key West. After moving back to Norway you sent me one of your many books, strange, but every time we met - maybe years had passed - but it seemed it was a subject we shared again. Ten years older then you, but our best moments there was when I ran into you and ended up discussing, even arguing - it always ended up adding to my life - my thinking and my memories. So sad you left and I feel sadness for all those close friend. A sacred spot will remain in my heart until it is my turn . <3

So sorry I missed Tom in the intervening years between fraternity ay Miami U. and 2022 when he served as our guide to Key West. Now I have read every Rutledge book at least once and remember what a genuine talent this man was. I will miss him and wish the best for family and loved ones.

Tom: Brilliant, outrageously funny, complicated, kind, multi-talented, eccentric, extroverted, private, focused, loyal. An epicurean, bibliophile, raconteur, music connoisseur. One of a kind.

My favorite author. His delivery was magically connected to my imagination. I will truly miss his craft as, sadly, I will no longer enjoy the anticipation of his next Alex Rutledge adventure. RIP Sir

So sorry to hear of Tom´s passing. I am an avid fan of his writing and photography. I met him and Randy Wayne White at a book signing in Key West many years ago. I often recall that afternoon. Both gentlemen were so friendly. Key West is my happy place and my memory of that day always makes me smile. He will be missed.
