Tom KINLOCH

KINLOCH, Thomas Campbell
November 3, 1930 - August 14, 2014
Tom, as he was best known, passed away at the Vancouver General Hospital August 14, 2014. He was born in Calgary, the third child, of Beatrice Maud Marshall (Kinloch), (nee Jackson) and Thomas Kinloch. Stepfather Earle Austin Marshall became part of the family by marriage in 1951. Tom was predeceased by sisters Beatrice O'Reilly (Bell) (nee Kinloch) and Ruth Spring (Burton) (nee Kinloch). He is survived by his dearest brother Monroe of Edmonton and by his extended family of five nieces; five nephews and their families of 14 great-nephews and nieces and three great-great- nephews. Tom was an accomplished pianist and ballroom dancer in his younger years and continued to enjoy classical music and the arts. Tom moved from Calgary to Vancouver in 1957 and became an administrator for the Parks (23 years) and Health departments (20 years) for the City of Vancouver. Following his retirement, he continued to travel around the globe. He was a resident of the Chalmers Lodge since 2007 and served on both the Residents Committee and the Chalmers Foundation Board of Directors. He was very generous to the community and instrumental in establishing several education funds in his name: at the University of British Columbia to support training of students, residents and / or physicians in family practice; the Minerva Foundation for BC Women in Vancouver to be used for the purpose of supporting scholarships and bursaries for women and children and the Vancouver Foundation for Arthritis education. He was also a patron of the Simon Fraser University Gerontology Centre, in particular to support the John K. Friesen Lecture Series and VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation Department of Cardiology. A Celebration of Tom's Life will be held on September 24, 2014 at SFU Beedie School of Business, Room 1200, 500 Granville Street, Vancouver, BC at 2:00 p.m. Interment of Tom's ashes will be in Calgary Queen's Park Cemetery, 3219 4th Street N.W., Calgary, at a Graveside Service Saturday, October 4, 2014, time to be determined.
