I last saw Mas in Monrovia, Liberia, in the summer of 2003, and we hung out on the verandah of the Momba Point Hotel, reeling in 20 years, back to when the Philadelphia Inquirer was heaven itself and the pig roast was in full bloom and the young ink-stained wretches among us were out changing the world. Mas had the gift. No more radiant man ever covered the world's bleaker beats. Let his light shine among those who had the pleasure of basking in it.
