My great Grandfather James (Jim Barham) was close life-long friends with Tom Moyer. I say lifelong because though they met as flyboys in WW2 as men. But they remained close and visited yearly, for decades it went on like that into the 1980's when I was still a kid. Jim Barham settled after the war in LA but came up to Oregon at least once per year, in part to visit my father and his family but also to be with Tom. I don't know why they were so close, entirely, but in part, I always thought it was because they were both athletes. Jim was an early pro basketball player (the league that latever became the NBA) and Tom a champion-level boxer. My great grandfather was older and had served also in WW1, was a superior (rank) to Tom during the 2nd war but they were brothers till the end. James died in his mid-90's in 1991. I will always remember the kindness of Tom Moyer. Our family in Oregon had open invitation to come swimming in their great pool during hot summers. And I loved that house so much. I tried to buy it when it finally came up for sale (Glendoveer) but it was out of my price range. Tom was a great host, his wife was a stellar woman whom my mother loved a great deal. We honor in our thoughts and prayers the great people of that generation whom we got to know. Tom is one of those. Oh, and he always gave us free movie passes. What a guy. Tribute!

I have great memories of working for the Moyers as a teenager, at the Family Drive In in the 60's. When the fog would roll in and we had to close, Tom would invite his employees to go over to Eastgate for a free movie evening. Nice family, great kids to spend time with.

My late mother, Martha Gevurtz York, always spoke highly of Tommy. She worked for nearly 40 years on Portland's Film Row, where the major studios formerly had their local branches. She was always bringing home Tommy Moyer stories. Growing up, I felt like I knew him. Truly an amazing man.

A real CREDIT to his generation, the City of Portland, the States of Washington and Oregon, OUR country (thank you for your service, SIR) and his children and offspring. God bless you, may you rest in peace. I am certain the Father is saying, "Well done, my faithful servant."
