Tommy McGrew Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 21, 2014.
Tommy Frank McGrew Sr. Tommy McGrew was born in Corning, Arkansas on November 15, 1935; the second of seven children born to Glen and Vecie (Mullholland) McGrew. After high school he joined the United States Marine Corps and served his country honorably for four years. Returning to Saint Louis, Missouri when his time in the military was completed, Tom took a job with Steak N Shake. In the late summer of 1961, he met the love of his life, Sherry, when she stopped by the restaurant to visit her brother. He asked her out on a date right then and there, and six weeks later Sherry Holder became his wife. They were married for 52 years and were blessed with three children: Patricia, Tommy Jr., and Deborah. Tom and Sherry then transferred to Central Florida .After 27 years, Tom retired as Southeast Regional Manager from Steak and Shake. Tom then opened McGrew Motors, an iconic car dealership in Longwood, Florida. Cars and trucks had long been one of his passions and he was thrilled to be able to turn that passion into his profession for the next 30+years. Tom was dedicated to his business and loved to be at work, but in his non-working hours he was an avid sports fan and outdoorsman. He enjoyed golf, fishing, NASCAR, and watching football on Sunday afternoons. Family and friends knew you just didn't call Tom between one and four on Sundays because he would be watching the game or the race. His other great love in life was spending time with his beloved grandchildren: Brandon, Devon, and Presley. Tom passed from this life on Friday, February 21st, 2014. He was 78. Tom's family will receive friends at the Baldwin-Fairchild Oaklawn Chapel in Sanford on Sunday, March 2nd from 1-3PM with a brief memorial service to be held at 3:00. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask you make a donation to Wounded Warrior Project https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/Default.aspx?tsid=675&campaignSource=CDRO&source=BS14038&gclid=CKKG7-y55bwCFUdk7AodeA8A8g
