Tommy Arthur Yates BRISTOL, Va. Tommy Arthur Yates, age 68, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at his home. He was born Feb. 4, 1944, in Grundy, Va. and was a son of the late Arthur and Edith Faye Yates. He grew up in Grundy, and had lived in Bristol for the past 40 years. Tom received his Bachelor's Degree from Concord College in Athens, W.Va. and had retired as an accountant with Glaxo-Smith Kline and was very active in the local little leagues and the Bristol Evening Lions Club. He was a very active member of the Euclid Avenue Baptist Church where he was currently serving as Chairman of the Deacon Board. Tom had a great love for his family. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Victoria Yates and his first wife, Veronica Wolfe Yates. Survivors include wife, Joyce P. Yates; son, S. Dean Yates and wife, Angie; grandchildren, Hunter Yates, Harley Yates and Kendel Yates; special brother-in-law, Richard "Dick" Wolfe; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral service for Mr. Yates will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2012, in the Euclid Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Jones officiating. The committal service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the current renovation fund at Euclid Avenue Baptist Church, 900 Euclid Ave., Bristol, VA 24201. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Euclid Avenue Baptist Church. Online condolences may be registered at www.weaverfuneralhome.net.
