Oh Sue, Andrea and Michael, how do I express my sorrow to you at this time? Tony was truly one of the great ones, kind, generous, patient, loving, gentle and so much more. I fondly remember our times together as I grew up right beside you - as your babysitter, your guest and your friend. How Tony spoke so eloquently on my behalf at my wedding. The warm memories of your family and what we shared and the kindnesses you all showed me will be with me forever. We've all lost a great one, but I'm so glad to be part of some of the special moments in your lives. Love and hugs, Shelley

To the Gumpert family,
Elinor and I wish to pass our sincere condolences on the passing of Tony. Although I knew Tony through our infrequent encounters as we pursued our military careers, we came to know Tony much more closely as a family man through his son Michael. In both circumstances I came to know Tony as an honest, thoroughly professional and exuberant man who enjoyed life to the fullest. I have fond memories of playing "Army" golf with Tony - he never lost his sense of humour and was always able to keep the rest of us smiling - when we didn't want to.

Dr. Tony Gumpert was the personification of integrity, intelligence, grace and a "good man." He was a mentor and champion to me while I did double duty working at DND while pursuing a law degree. Tony was thoughtful and supportive - reviewing my papers and making useful suggestions that enhanced the final result. We shared the inner workings and frustrations of the Atkins Diet. I was thrilled that he and Suzanne were able to attend my Call to the Bar Party in June 2008. I knew him as a gentleman and a scholar and a fine golf player - tolerant and bemused by a rookie's ineptitude. I will miss him tremendously and regret I was not able to share the stories of my recent trip to China with him. My sincerest condolences and support to Suzanne and his family - whom he loved dearly and of whom he was inordinately proud. (He often commended Suzanne's superior abilities in many areas - golf being among them.) The good die young and Tony has been taken before his time. Your loss is deeply felt and you will be missed here by many, many people who loved you. That is the greatest legacy anyone can leave. Rest in peace, my friend. Until we meet again....

My condolences to The Tony Gumpert Family,
His bright red hair and engaging smile always brought some sun shine into a room or a Command Post tent in the field on exercise. I fondly remember being a 2nd Lieutenant in Gagetown selected in 1965 to go on a Safety Course in Toronto who was fortunate enough to have Tony as a guide and mentor on this trip to the Big City. He was a true professional and a solid RCASC member respected by all who served with him.

Noura and I are very sad to hear of Tony's passing. We will always cherish the memories of sitting around the kitchen table at Chautauqua eating his ribs and discussing the day's events. Also, we will never forget how he helped us on our wedding day just over two months ago. Due to impending rain, what was to be an outdoor wedding had to become an indoor wedding. As a result, we had to move all of the chairs and decorations inside on a moments notice. Despite his illness, Tony was one of the first to jump into action and, let's just say, he did more than carry his weight. We could not thank him enough for his leadership that day.

Our sincere condolences to Suzanne and the rest of his family.

We have great memories of Tony at Chautauqua. He truly was full of life and it seems a serious injustice that he was taken from his family and friends so soon. It was an honour to have known him.

He walked into the Air Force Officer's Mess at CFB St.Hubert in his Army uniform. He was the first integrated officer to come on board. "Hi!" he said, "I'm Tony Gumpert." Well, if Hellyer needed a poster boy for the new integrated forces, he couldn't have picked a better representative. Affable, intelligent, and just pleasant to be around, Tony just drew in ever body he encountered.
We became inseparable in our early twenties. Both of us travelled together to night school working our way through university while holding down day jobs. He was my best man and I his. He is Godfather to my son as I am to his daughter.
But our careers took us to opposite ends of the country and the years have passed. And it is only now that one realizes what a wonderful, wonderful, unforgettable friendship we had.
Tony, you left too soon and you will be missed terribly.
Love

To the Gumpert Family
It is with great sadness to hear of Tony's passing. Tony and I first met at College Street school in Halifax. His mother taught us in grade 3 or 4 if memory serves me correct. I had occasion to work for Tony back in the 70's at Ottawa and met occasionally through out my military service. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Tony was the finest person I've ever met. He was kind, spiritually generous, and unwaveringly helpful to all he met. It was a comfort to know that such a good man was with us, and we are all somewhat diminished by his passing.

To the Family of Tony Gumpert,
Tony and I worked together for two years on the OWSM Program here in Ottawa. I had not met Tony during our former military careers but quickly became highly impressed with his technical knowledge and skills. I sought Tony's guidance on several occasions and could always count on his advice. I considered Tony to be one of my closest friends and confidants. We shared our travel experiences and career experiences. I shall truly miss his candor and honesty. My sincere condolences to all of you for your loss. Tony was a great man!
