It is with deep sadness that I heard today that Dr Tony McCartney had passed away. I must have been overseas last October.I met Tony in 1978 by default, then a young man of 37, he was standing in for my Dr who was on holiday. My baby was born too early to survive. I had a bicornuate uterus. Dr was the only one who advised me of an operation to fix this problem. He then performed a Strassman operation, the first he had ever done. It is because of Tony that I have two lovely sons and three grandsons.
I remember him to be drop dead gorgeous, his bedside manner was kind, gentle and reassuring he treated me with love and care and gave me the chance to be a mother.
My deepest sympathy to his family. With love Penelope and John Vyse.Always in our hearts.

My dear Dr Tony McCartney. He will be sadly missed from my life and he was my life saver. Came back from South Africa and rang Rhonda today and I realised he is no more in this world to save women like us who has no hope at all. Where will I find another Dr Tony. God will keep him safe and he will be looking down from heaven to wish me all the best in life. My sincerest sympathy to Dr Tony's family.

He was always a wonderful mentor and example to us all in his care and respect of patients. He epitomised the ideal consultant - he was enthusiastic, patient, generous with his time and welcoming and encouraging to new trainees. He was a true gentleman and friend to us all, and supported our fellowship by attending our social functions. We can only hope to pass on some of his talents and gifts to those following us.
