Tony Lawrence Ritchie

Our beloved dad, husband, grandpa, brother, son, cousin, and friend, Tony Lawrence Ritchie, returned home to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 after suffering a heart attack a week and a half earlier. He was only 61 years old. He will forever be in our hearts and always be incredibly missed.

 

Tony was born in Ogden on May 21, 1962 to Shirley Bowden and Ensign Ritchie. He was the youngest of four children. He had two brothers and two sisters, Melvin Ritchie, Rod Hastie, Leslie Chaparro, and Jodie Benson. He spent his childhood growing up on 15th Street in Ogden. He loved swimming at Lorin Farr Pool, liked to play ball with his friends, and loved his mom’s delicious cooking. He looked up to his dad, who was a sports editor for the Standard Examiner.

 

Tony attended Mound Fort Junior High and graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1980.

 

Tony was of the LDS faith. He served an honorable 18-month mission in Sydney, Australia. He had a strong testimony of his Savior, Jesus Christ.

 

Tony married Barbara Hayes on December 31, 1985. Together they share four children. Later, he married his love, Paula Adams, on July 16, 2011. They were sealed together in the Bountiful Temple.

 

Of all the good things that life has to offer, Tony enjoyed being with his wife, kids, and grandkids the most. It didn’t matter if the grandkids were looking for a hundred hidden Easter eggs around the backyard or if everyone was getting together to have a bbq by the pool—he always looked forward to seeing his family. He absolutely loved going to Weber State football games whenever he had the chance. He adored his cats, but especially Bruce, Cato, Sunny, and Keaton. There was nothing better than having a Coke and a pepperoni and onion pizza on Saturday night from Ligori’s or Ogden Pizzeria. His favorite place to go on vacation was Disneyland. He made holidays very memorable, year after year. He coached youth football for a long time and loved every minute of it. His kids can rarely recall a time when he wasn’t cheering for the Cincinnati Bengals. He was always joking around and making people laugh. He could quote just about any movie out there. He loved to perform and was involved in several plays throughout his life. His favorite bands included Chicago, Peter Cetera, and Journey. He accomplished a lot in his short time here on Earth. His memory is and will always be cherished by many.

 

Tony is preceded in death by his parents, Ensign and Shirley; and father-in-law, Tom Adams. He is survived by his wife, Paula; his children, Amanda (Ben) Stowell, Derek (Kylee) Ritchie, Laura (Jeff) Henry, and Brad (Jarika) Korsmo; 4 step-kids, Rachel Bettis, Shanna (Ty) Hoth, Taylor (Tanner) James, Tanner (Alyssa) Nielsen; 12 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Elaine Adams; his sisters and brothers; niece and nephew, Carlie (Sveva) Benson and Blake Stone; and many, many other loved ones.

 

Funeral services will be held Monday November 13, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Cedar Bench Ward, 1814 E. 7775 S. South Weber, Utah.  Friends may visit with family Sunday November 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah and Monday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church.
