Hey, Dad, this is your "namesake" son checking in. I'm just remembering you on this Father's Day (eve) and giving you props for doing a thankless task--raising and providing for children in a world that makes things exceedingly difficult, if not impossible, to do both. I don't know you did it in this crazy, unjust world without losing your sanity, but you did and for that you have my eternal respect and gratitude. I don't think you were fully appreciated while you were here, but rest assured you are now. Peace, love and respect.
Troy Jr. (BKA "Don").

Well, well Father, on Monday August 7th we, your children, Celebrated your 86th Solar Return Anniversary. We do it by acknowledging each other with our own "Siblings'Day". Foe the past two years, I have been honored to know and include my "Big Sister" Lyndava "Windy" Gill Williams. I know you know. We felt the guidance of your Divine flow at work to being us together. I also felt your Divine flow on, powered by and protecting on my first trip to Africa. I am because you Were. The "We Are" of your offspring continuously project "You" in the present. Now the laser focus on the generation of grandchildren-Whitney, Natasha and Antonio. Brandon is with you. Divine guidance and protection requested and accepted. Nam Myoho Renge Kyo. Ase', Ase', Ase-o

Dad, Dr Gill, I am so Happy to Celebrate your 83rd Solar Return! As I have thought of you and the lessons you gave, I feel satisfied to say, "I understand and appreciate what you were teaching me". Dad, Dr Gill, today is your 83rd Solar Return. As I still miss you daily, I have grown to see you in myself, my siblings, and your grandson. That question you asked me, "who is your ideal client" inspires my journey as the healing professional I've become. I realize many of your lessons, and appreciate things you said or did now, that I couldn't when they were originally offered. I am Thankful for your continued guidance and protection and offer Gratitude in Advance for your help on the current project in process. Love You Always, and continue to act in making you Proud of the Legacy you left in Me.

Happy 81st Solar Return Dad! I honor You by working in service. I coordinate a psychiatric rehabilitation program in Baltimore City USA serving those most in need just like you did. I know you know as weak immune regularly and continue to wonder at the fact that you pushed for growth and learning until your very last day. May I join the ancestors with such a record of ceaseless advancement. In love and appreciation. Your daughter number one Eunice Ursula Gill Young

Dear dad,
I've been thinking of you a lot. There is a road I take to get to work. It has these dips that remind me of Fardown Ave. The sensation is the same as the rides we got in Big Red. Thanks for the adventures and advice. Thanks for still being someone to talk to. I miss you. I can't believe it's been 7 years.
I LOVE YOU.

Troy D. Gill Sr. was not a really big sports fan, but he had a son who was -- namely, me. I kind of dragged him into my passion for sports while I was living with him in Utah and following the Utah Jazz. By my count, I went to probably around 50 or so games during that time, usually catching the bus to get to the downtown arena from our house out in the 'burbs. But the buses going back out there had stopped running by the time the games were over, and I thus needed another way to get home. Well, guess who just happened to have his office downtown almost within walking distance of the Jazz's home arena? That's right, and my Dad would regularly oblige me and my friends with rides home from the game. I don't think he ever once left me hanging without a way to get out of the city, so whatever thoughts I had about him being not such a good Dad back then, time has certainly erased those selfish sentiments with feelings of gratitude that I had a father who allowed me some enjoyment of something important to me even if it wasn't his cup of tea, and often went out of his way to do so. One little side note that should be mentioned -- he often funded my nights of pro sports entertainment, albeit after "coaxing" me into doing a few chores around the house that I was less than enthused about performing. All in all, in looking back I'd say it was a damn good deal that he gave me. So, Dad, wherever you are, much love and many thanks. You are appreciated.

Dad, today [August 7th], would have been your 75th birthday...Happy Birthday!!!! I am so glad you were born, so I too, could be born. Thinking of you, reminiscing about old times, and preparing for a trip to Chicago. Yes, the "Gill gang" is headed to Chi-town. Brother Omi, won't be able to make it this time, but we laughed and were grateful and being born brothers and sisters.
I love you. We love you. You are greatly missed but not forgotten!

One of the things I remember about the years I lived with my dad Troy D. Gill Sr. was that one of my favorite TV shows at the time was "MASH" which was running in syndication. He used to come home late from work often, and if the show was on, he'd come downstairs where I was staying and watch it with me. What's funny is that as serious as Dad was, he'd often crack up more than I would with his "guffaw" kind of laughter. He really let the "ha-has" fly when he saw Klinger, the male character in the show who always dressed like a woman trying to prove to the army he was crazy so they'd discharge him and send him home early from the war. Dad would say something like, if I can paraphrase, "Ha, look at that Klinger!" and then let loose with a few guffaws, which made it one of the few "bonding" moments we had in those days. Since he often got home from work around the time I went to bed, these were among the few moments we shared during those years that we lived together like two wild and crazy (well, wannabe) dudes in Utah, so they stand out a lot now even though they seemed so "normal" at the time.
Dad always said, "life is a gift....so ENJOY the present!!!.."

Cousin Donald your gone to soon, you will always be in our hearts. To my cousin Ursula and family, Life is being born and passing away; Living to the fullest of each glorious day; Life is the goals and ambitious of each living man; The development of mind and body as best he can. Life is sweat, tears, heartaches and love that each man must bear; It's the reverence to the one up above that we all must share; Life is loving, trusting and just being kind; and the memories we leave for loved ones left behind.

Dad,
Ever since you left us, I have been praying for you to be in a happy, loving place, and knowing you, maybe a place where you can experience all that and have a good time, too.
It seemed like just yesterday you were telling me what new web sites to go to, what you thought of the goings on in politics, with celebrities, sports, money, etc. and now those conversations are among the many memories I have of you and will be sure to share with others.
As a boy growing up, you were my idol. As a quietly rebellious teen and a young man, I got "mannish" and started rebelling against you as I pushed for my own independence and sense of identity.
As a man, I had clashes, debates, and arguments with you, but more often shared great conversations and exchanged laughter and bbservations about life, and in those few times we saw each other, spent time together, eating, reminiscing, and even exchanging a hug or two.
You may be gone in spirit, Dad, but you will not ever be gone from our minds or our hearts. Hopefully, from whatever lofty perch you can see us in your next life, you see that, feel that, and know that.
Love,
Your first and namesake son
Troy Donald Gill Jr.

Words can't express the sadness I have felt since learning of Troy's passing. His kindness, concern, and friendship have seen me through many difficult times. He was certainly a TRUE friend, and I will remain forever grateful for that. His encouragement was always genuine, his laughter was healing, and his huge smile so much appreciated. I first met Troy as my neighbor, about 40 years ago, and he has remained my good friend ever since. To all of his children: you have been and will be in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you, Troy, for your lifelong friendship . . . and for just being one-of-a-kind YOU.
