Dear Arlene,
I was so saddened to learn just today of your Father's passing. My condolences to you, your Mother and family.
I first met Van in his capacity as photographer for the OLT over 50 years ago. He photographed my mother Flo frequently, and I was delighted to see him at her memorial in November 2008. His many theatrical photos were on display then for all visitors to appreciate and marvel over ... those productions suddenly brought to life again through his magnificent photography. But my fondest memory was of our beautiful day together at Bill Glen's cottage, where he showed my Mother and I such gracious thoughtfulness. He so kindly photographed Bill's friends throughout the day and sent me copies of those magical moments. I have those memories vivid in my mind, and I remember our chat with such pleasure.
He was a remarkable, kind, gentle man, who popped in and out of my life from time to time, always making me feel so special. My deepest sympathy to you all.

Dear Arlene
I remember well when you stayed at our house while your dear parents were at work. I have found memories of those days and of your parents. Their faces always lit up the moment they saw you when they came to pick you up after work. My parents looked upon them as good friends. Your dad took our wedding pictures over 50 years ago, he was great at putting us at ease..I hope you also have found memories of those days even if you were very young at the time.
Our hearts go out to you at this time and in the days ahead. Please tell your mother that I'm sorry for her lost and remember her fondly.

We cherish our wedding album from our July, 1967 "centennial project" when Mr. Van so calmly and gently provided his impeccable professional services - on a hot, sticky and emotional day - to this anything-but-calm couple. His photo album colours today are as vibrant as the day he captured our special lifetime memory - and we remain proud and appreciative of his masterpiece. It was a privilege to know him in this vital capacity and we extend our deepest sympathies and best wishes to his family in this time of loss. May many fond memories sustain you in the days ahead.
