Tyler Preston Ewald

To the Ewald family,
You have my deepest condolences. I was Tylers saw partner (basically his assistant) his last year on Silver State. All and all I was attached to his hip for 6 months. It took everything I had to keep up with Tyler that season. He was a very physically gifted, intelligent, and upstanding human being. The time I worked with him made me a better human being. I saw him as a mentor and someone to be looked up to (not that he wanted anything to do with that). By example he taught me a number of things about being an upstanding, hardworking, and respectable man, and I have done my best to internalize these lessons. Additionally, Tyler saved me from severe injury, and more than likely my life a few occasions that season. Dealing with chainsaw and large trees can be dangerous business and Tyler made sure to keep me out of harms way the best he could. I have to thank the family for gifting the world such an incredible human being.

To the Ewald family, I'm very saddened, Tyler and I were saw partners for two seasons on Silver State and close friends ever since. Tyler was loved and respected by everyone he worked with, he will be sorely missed.Tyler will always be a part of the Silver State Hotshot Family. The Ewald Family will be a part of the Silver State hotshot Family also. Please know that we are here to help whenever possible. My heart goes out to the entire family.

Peggy and John and family, I can't imagine the sadness and disbelief that must consume you over the loss of Tyler. May the strength and love of family, friends and community help you one day to find a path towards bearing your deep grief and anguish. May you be kind to yourselves along the way. Solace.

Peggy, I am so sorry for your loss. I remember Tyler as a little boy. You must be so proud that he followed in Johns footsteps. Sending you healing thoughts.

I'll never forget all the laughs we shared in the back of the room through paramedic school. Some of the hardest days were bearable because of the encouragement you shared or the horrible dad jokes you had somehow already acquired. You truly made the world a better place. You will be missed greatly by all of the lives you have touched. Hope you're finally at peace. Love you, man.

I worked with Ty for many years. He was an outstanding Hotshot and, as his obituary notes, was awarded Hotshot of the Year. This is no small honor as it is awarded by your peers. In the context of Hotshots this is a group of very hard people that do not tolerate anything but grit, sweat and perseverance. Ty embodied all these qualities. No matter how horrendous and difficult conditions were, he was always quick to crack a dry joke and keep on pushing. I have a lot of respect for Tyler Ewald and always will, he was an outstanding human force. Rest easy and eat a bean my brother, you're tied in and headed home. Ex Silver State 30B.
