I am so very sorry I could not attend either the Visitation or the Service. Fred has been sick since before Christmas, and we only got the diagnosis this week. I met Vain when High School when we were both in Key Club. My parents were driving me to catch the bus full of Key Clubbers from around the state that was heading to Chicago for the Key Club International Conference. The car broke down en route, and the bus kindly waited for me. I didn't know anyone, I was making them all late, and I was the only girl (Key Club had just allowed girls to join). Vain and his friend Patrick befriended me and made me feel like I belonged.
I will never his kindness and energy. While we lost touch over the years, I am unsurprised at the outpouring of love. That's just all the love he gave out coming back. What an amazing difference he made in the world. I am lucky to have known him.

Always smiling, and always kind and mannerly. A very good, nice person who will be missed.

I truly great man and friend. We will miss you my friend!!

And started working for grants I didn't have any friends. Until I met Vain, he was the only one who made me feel like a real human being. And always was so bright on my dark day's. Now we say rest in peace to the beautiful angel who earned his wings.

Vain was an integral part of my life at Concord, he was a friend. The laughs and smiles; we "suffered" at his expense because his jokes were immeasurable, for he was one of the funniest, greatest souls ever. I was surprised Vain stayed in WV. I had moved away years ago and came back to visit and there was Vain!!!! TV personality!! I thought it was great for him.

I left WV in my 20's and lost touch with everyone. I hope Vain did exactly what he wanted to do.

Vain was truly a very special person. We all loved it when he came to Grants in Bland, Va. He always had a kind word and a smile for everyone. I wish we had known him better. To his family and his husband we are praying for all of you.

Vain I'll never forget the fun times we had dancing and singing in the office at Grants supermarket on Mercer and main and the few times my husband and myself and you and Jim went out to dinner we all laughed and had a great time. I interviewed Vain for a job vacancy. Once it concluded I told him”Vain that was the best interview I’ve ever done!” The thing is Vains personality always was clear to everyone he met. He was a well spoken, genuine, loving, full of life person that blessed so many lives!

I first met Vain over 20 years ago on a shoot we were on working for NBC stations. Instantly we became friends. Vain was one of the most genuine people I ever met in my life. I will never forget that smile that he would flash and instantly everything would be ok. Rest easy my friend.
