Reverend Dr. Valerie D. Drummond Howell-Bard, born on July 19, 1951, to the late James Drummond and Verna Fields Drummond, has embarked on her final journey to be with her Lord. Val, as she was affectionately known, was a remarkable soul who touched the lives of many with her strong spirit and unwavering faith. Val was the baby girl of five children.

Val's journey began in the vibrant neighborhoods of Philadelphia, where she grew up in Germantown before moving to the Southwest area of the city during her teenage years. She navigated life with a spirit that embodied the elements of earth, wind, and fire, leaving a permanent mark on everyone she encountered. Valerie was a woman of valor, and a woman of strength (Proverbs 31:25). Val loved the Lord with her whole heart (Mark 2:30-31), and she showed it.

Val's educational journey led her through the Philadelphia Public school system, culminating in her high school diploma and cosmetology license from Bok Vocational School. However, her true calling was in her unwavering love for the Lord, and her desire to serve Him became the guiding light of her life.

At the tender age of 16, Val found her first love in Van Howell Sr., and their love story continued for 22 beautiful years. Together, they built a home in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia and were blessed with four children, each bearing a name starting with "V" in honor of their parents' love. Val's devotion to her children was boundless, making them her everything. Every Sunday Val would have individual prayer with her children and some nieces and nephews. The prayer included a sermon and a poem.

Val was a woman of truth and candor, never shying away from telling it like it is (Proverbs 14:25). This characteristic not only defined her parenting style but also forged lasting connections with others. Her fashion sense was legendary, often adorned with large earrings and vibrant colors that reflected her radiant personality. Val had a youthful spirit, insisting on being called "Cherry" by her beloved grandchildren, who meant the world to her.

Dancing was a passion that Val shared with others, particularly her love for the Bop. Holidays were her favorite times of the year, and her culinary skills were unmatched, leaving guests craving for more. Val's generosity knew no bounds, ensuring that every holiday gathering ended with cherished gifts for all. Valerie loved her FAMILY, particularly her siblings! Val's relationship with her cousins and best friends was immeasurable.

Val's relationship with God was nurtured by her mother's early introduction to faith, but as a young adult, she embarked on a personal journey of getting to know Jesus Christ (Psalm 42). Her yearning for the divine led her to grab a microphone and share the message of salvation on Woodland Ave, leading many to find Christ through her words. Valerie became a member of Bethany Baptist Church where Rev. Dr. Myron D Barnes, baptized her.

In 1986, Val found her second and final love in Walter Tyrone Bard, whom she affectionately called "Ty." In their 37 years their inseparable bond was evident to all who knew them, sharing countless family events, car rides, and doctor appointments. Their love was an inspiration to everyone around them.

Val's dedication to her faith culminated in her earning a Theology degree from New Life Bible Institute in 2006. This accomplishment allowed her to officiate marriages and conduct funerals, which she did with honor and grace. She later achieved her Ph.D. from (GIU) Glory International University and Ministry, a testament to her unwavering commitment to her spiritual calling.

Val's impact on countless lives cannot be measured, as her authenticity and wisdom left an enduring mark on those she encountered. She had a unique gift for connecting with people, making little girls feel beautiful and little boys feel strong. Her voice, a calm storm, could deliver a scolding, provide comfort, and invoke laughter, all at once. Val used her God-given gift to bring solace and guidance to those in need.

In her early years, Val's journey led her to the world of broadcasting, where she became a shining star. As an aspiring talent, she had the incredible opportunity to appear on the legendary Donahue show, where her charisma and talent shone brightly. Her presence on the show was a testament to her dedication and determination to pursue her dreams.

Val was not only a participant in the broadcasting world; she also had the privilege of shadowing the great Georgie Woods, a renowned figure in the industry. Under his guidance, she honed her skills and learned the intricacies of the field, paving the way for her own success.

One of the most significant influences on Val's career was her mentor, Trudy Haynes. Trudy's wisdom, guidance, and unwavering support played a pivotal role in Val's journey. Val cherished the lessons she learned from Trudy.

Val also joined the Midnight Cry, a Philadelphia Ministry Radio Show with Pastor Bellamy. Her reach extended even further, where Val joined the Philadelphia Police Clergy, where she served for many years, focusing on the 55th and Pine district.

Val, was loved by ALL of her nieces and nephews. As she was loving called "Aunt Val or Ms. Val, she was a vibrant tapestry of memories, each thread woven with love, laughter, and a touch of feistiness. She was more than just an aunt; she was the life of the party, the spark that ignited joy in every gathering. Val's presence was like a burst of fireworks on a dark night, and her sharp wit kept everyone on their toes. With her infectious smile and laughter, she turned ordinary moments into extraordinary ones, and her zest for life was an inspiration to us all. She had an uncanny ability to capture the essence of a moment with her disposable camera. Those candid snapshots she took will forever be cherished, preserving the memories of our shared adventures and precious family gatherings.

Val's impact extended far beyond her immediate family. Val was a pillar of support for the neighborhood kids. She was the go-to woman when they needed advice, a comforting presence, or just a friend to talk to. She had a way of making each young person feel special and valued, imparting wisdom and kindness in equal measure. She touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark of love, laughter, and genuine care. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
