Val was the "zen master," wise, compassionate, calm, and true. I was so lucky to work with her and get to know her. Some of her beautiful paintings grace the walls of our home. She will be missed but never forgotten. My deepest sympathy to Tru, Athan,Maggie, and their families.

Val´s life was full of love, color, humor and wisdom. She was an inspiration and I will greatly miss her.

I feel so grateful to have had Val as a mother figure in my life. She was so warm, welcoming and especially patient and generous with our vivacious group of girlfriends. I will cherish all the garden tours, seeds and transplants she gave me for my own garden over the years. She will be in my heart as I attempt her world famous apple cake every Fall, and I will continue to love, support and enjoy my friendships with her amazing family, her greatest accomplishment. To know Val was not simply to love her, but perhaps more meaningfully, to feel loved. Sending love, Carey Williams (Baltimore)
