Vanessa Bouley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 27, 2025.
In loving memory of Vanessa Marie Bouley, born on January 05, 1990; better known by her pen name, Vanessa Slaughter, passed away on January 10, 2025, at the age of 35. She leaves behind a profound legacy of courage, honesty, and unwavering hope, dedicated to making the world a more compassionate and understanding place. Through her life and her writing, Vanessa exemplified the power of embracing one's truths and the transformative impact of genuine human connection, even in the face of life's greatest challenges.Vanessa deeply believed that her purpose in life was to share her story and help others feel less alone. Through her writing and heartfelt conversations, she poured herself into building connections grounded in understanding and compassion. She often spoke about her hopes for her work, once writing, "If I can help even one person, then my life won't have passed without purpose." Her vulnerability was her greatest strength, and by bravely sharing her struggles, she sought to bring comfort to those who felt unseen, especially within the Trans community. Vanessa's life was a beautiful testament to the healing power of openness, empathy, and the courage to make others feel truly seen. She was a deeply reflective and resilient person, always striving to grow and understand herself while helping others do the same. Her creative soul found comfort and expression in writing, where she poured her heart into every word, believing in the power of stories to inspire, heal, and connect. She cherished the beauty of human connection, embracing its messiness and complexities, and found meaning in the lessons that both joy and hardship offered. Above all, she hoped her life would reflect the enduring power of love, perspective, and authenticity. To her, life wasn't about perfection or achievements but about the ways we impact others and the relationships we nurture. As she once wrote, "My body will decay, but my words are immortal." Her writings, filled with raw honesty will continue to touch and inspire everyone who reads them. Her life serves as a powerful reminder that every person's story carries purpose and value. She will always be remembered for her remarkable courage, boundless compassion, and the love she so generously shared through her words. She will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and eternally loved. In tribute to her passion for helping others and her deep love of writing, the family kindly requests donations to Trans Lifeline and The LGBTQ Center of Los Angeles in her honor.

Vanessa is survived by her parents Kathy and Richard, her siblings Cai and Kevin, and her beloved cat Panda.

You were a light in this world, and your courage to live authentically will always inspire me. Your kindness, laughter, and love touched so many hearts, including mine. I hope you´ve found peace, free from pain and full of joy. You will always be remembered, celebrated, and loved exactly as you were - the amazing person you chose to be

Christmas of 2022 was a turning point in my life, thanks to my Aunt Vanessa. My parents were in another room and I opened up about my anxieties and self esteem issues. She sat me down and told me something that I follow to this day, "Sweetie, just because someone views you a certain way, does not mean that is the way you are. If you wanna wear a crop top and look good, then don´t let anyone take that away from you." She was the one who freed me, and helped me realize that my self expression was up to me. I´ll always share that message to anyone who needs it, because she did that for me.

Sweet Vanessa! We connected instantly when we first met 6 years ago. Then we become friends/neighbors and got even closer. You brought a smile to my face every time we ran into each other in our apartment building. I will miss our hallway chats. I pray you are resting well! Much love. Lisa

Vanessa was my Bestest of friends. While residing in the dark, miserable wretched Palmdale, VANESSA WAS THE ONLY SHINE OF LIGHT I HAD. VANESSA ALWAYS CAME TO SAVE THE DAY. SHE WAS FAMILY TO ME. WE WERE SO CLOSE! VANESSA WAS ONE OF THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO COULD MAKE ME LAUGH OR SMILE. PLEASE TELL ME THIS IS A WRETCHED PRANK! PLEASE DONT TELL ME SHE IS GONE

Sweet Vanessa. I knew her through my daughter, Amanda. Vanessa lived just around the corner from us. We would watch American Idol and laugh so hard. She had a beautiful light about her. May she rest in peace.

I have so many incredible beautiful memories. You have always been Vanessa Marie to me, the Marie sisters just like me and Cai. I remember thinking how sweet it was that you wanted to be Vanessa Vescuso because of how close you two were. You and Cai shared an understanding and a closeness no one else had. It was such a beautiful relationship to witness. You deserve to have your memory sung through all of lives halls. The stars weeped with joy when you joined them, they knew how much your smile would light the night sky along side them...while we weep here from your absence. I wish I could have given Cai the closure they needed to see you one last time, Cai fought hard too. But like some of our favorite horror movies... Ev!l never dies!

What I would give to go to one more movie or read one more poem.
I´ll never be the same and Cai will never be whole again.
I love and miss you always.

Vanessa was a dear friend to me when I was a pre-teen and teenager, really hurting, and needing someone to talk to when I didn´t have anyone else who got me. She was a unique light to me and I know she was that for so many people. I´ll always remember sitting in the shade near lake Buena Vista making flower chains and whistles from grass with her. Exchanging little poems we wrote. She was a good girl and a lovely woman and she will be very missed.

Vanessa´s life will never be forgotten. Although I never had the chance to meet her, I was able to feel closer to her through her family. I am thankful that I am still able to hear the stories of how amazing she truly was. She was smart, loving, artistic, and filled with so much beauty to share with the world. Her words mean so much to people who have little hope with the state of the world. She was a special and brave woman with so much love for others. Lovely Vanessa, you were gone too soon but you will always be remembered.

Vanessa was a beautiful soul, taken from us far too soon. Despite the many challenges she faced in life, she always carried herself with grace, kindness, and love. Her warmth and generosity of spirit touched everyone she met. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace Vanessa.
