Vanita Solomons

Vanita Audean Solomons (née Hurst), 91, of Melville, NY passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025. Born on December 16, 1933, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Karl and Rosa Hurst, Vanita always put others first. She was a beautiful person inside and out who lived a life filled with love and devotion to her family.

While working at Fort Sill Army Base, Vanita met Jack Solomons, the love of her life. Their whirlwind romance led to marriage and quickly brought her to a new life in New York. Vanita worked for many years at Fairchild Republic in Farmingdale while she and Jack raised their three sons: Philip Adam, Jeff, and Scott in Massapequa Park. When each boy married she welcomed their wives-Connie, Debra, and Donna-as her very own daughters.

Known affectionately to many as "Grandma the Great," Vanita found immense joy in her role as a grandmother to Sarah, Meghan, Zachary, Elizabeth, Jake and Bailey. Her happiness grew even more with the arrival of her great-grandchildren: Joslyn, Nora, Macy and Lucy (who she was able to meet just weeks ago!). Her love, thoughtfulness and quiet wit has brought joy to every generation of her family.

Vanita is survived by her children and their spouses; her grandchildren and their Spouses - Sarah and Joe, Meghan and Rob, Elizabeth and Tad, Jake, Bailey; her great-grandchildren; her niece Gail; her nephews John, Chuck and Bill.

Vanita's legacy is one of warmth, kindness, and unwavering love. She touched countless lives with her generous heart and left an enduring mark on all who knew her. Her memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to those fortunate enough to have shared in her remarkable life.
