Varda Peller Backus, M.D.

My sincere condolences to George and both the Peller and Backus families on the loss of dear Varda. She was brilliant, kind, and a true force of nature. I learned something new each time I was with her, and her advice and guidance was invaluable in my personal and professional life. The memory of time we spent with her and George in San Diego and in Chicago will always reside in my heart. She will be greatly missed.

Dear family of Varda, How smart and insightful she was with just the right amount of common sense .... I was fortunate to be her patient in the mid-80s. Overloaded with childrearing, marriage, professional work and adjusting to it all. She was a treasured therapist to whom ... after I stopped seeing her of course ... I referred several friends. But I was unlucky in that because I had been a patient ... and respected those rules .... I did not get to enjoy what I see now was so much that we (and my husband) had in common. SO much. Cooking, French language and culture, the arts, and on and on.
I am sending my sincere condolences ... I know her death is a great loss ... and am glad the it seems she was 'herself' right until the end. She was special. If there is a memorial service that we can attend, please let me know. I would like to honor her.

It was a honor to be part of Varda´s care team. She was brilliant, and so well versed. She had a flair for speaking her mind in a way that was so prolific. I was constantly in awe of her and George´s commitment and interdependence while still maintaining their own unique characteristics. I was so grateful that I captured this moment when I attended an appointment with them shortly before her passing.
Varda was beautiful, brilliant and so unique.
