Vasil "Bill" T. Chakos 1949-2023

Vasil T. Chakos, 74, Late of Fairview Heights, IL and formerly of Whiting, IN, passed away on November 24, 2023 in St. Louis, Missouri. Vasil, lovingly known as "Bill" is preceded in death by his Parents Ruth and Theodore and his daughter Stephanie, and is survived by his daughter, Heather (Mike), his son, Jeromy, his granddaughter, Morgan, and his grandson, Jacob. Bill is also survived by his siblings Venetia (Michael) Hugos, Michael (Susan) Chakos, Thomas (Diane) Chakos, Theodore (Joyce) Chakos, Tim (Anne-deceased) Chakos.

He was born on May 15, 1949 in Oak Park, IL to Ruth and Theodore Chakos. Bill attended Tinley Park High School and later served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1977 where he dedicated himself to his military associations. He and his family took pride in his service to our country.

For well over 20 years, Bill was the head mechanic at the Thornton Quarry in Thornton, IL. He worked hard and enjoyed life. He loved captaining his boat, fishing, riding his motorcycles, bowling, playing pool, and giving people a hard time. Those who he loved most, were exposed to his snarky sarcasm and "junkyard" humor. Some of Bill's most enjoyed activities later in life included spending time with his two dogs and indulging his passion for cooking. He especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. All these hobbies and family gatherings brought him joy and allowed him to connect with others who shared his interests.

Bill will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his military service, and his love for his dogs and motorcycles. He had a unique ability to care for others before himself and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 13, 2024, at 3pm, at First congregational Church of Western Springs, 1106 Chestnut St, Western Springs, IL 60558, with a reception to follow onsite. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to K9s for Warriors. Condolences and memories may be shared at Legacy.com.
