Velma Katherine DeChant

BURBANK - Velma Katherine DeChant (nee Webber), 90, of Burbank, Ohio, died Sat., Mar. 10, 2012. She was born Sept. 5, 1921 in Sheffield Lake, and lived most of her life in Sheffield Village.
Velma was a graduate of Brookside High School class of 1939, and a graduate of Elyria Business College in 1941. After graduating, she worked for the American Stove Co. in Lorain. She married Philip Walter DeChant on November 21, 1942, and they moved to Philadelphia. While Philip was in the service, Velma worked at the Philadelphia Shipyard. They returned to live in Sheffield Village until 1988 when they moved to Congress, Ohio.
Velma was baptized in St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, Sheffield Village, was a long-time parishioner of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Sheffield Lake, and later at St. Stephen Catholic Church in West Salem. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Velma will be remembered for her devotion to her faith and her family.
She is survived by her son: John (Kathy) DeChant; daughter: Jane Offenbach; Grandsons: Mark Offenbach, Nicholas Offenbach, Scott (Tammy) Widdows, and their daughter: Holly, Kris (Michelle) Widdows and their children Steven, John, and Stephanie; Cousin: Phyllis (Joseph) Rozga of Tampa, FL.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Philip Walter DeChant in 2006, to whom she had been married 64 years.
Friends will be received Wed. from 9:00 a.m. until time of closing prayers at 10:30 a.m. at the Misencik Funeral Home, 36363 Detroit Rd., Avon, followed by a 11:00 a.m. mass at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, Sheffield.
