Kubicek, Velma Louise, age 75, Lincoln, formerly Crete, widow of Kenneth Kubicek, passed away Tuesday evening on April 20, 2010 in Lincoln. She was born on June 24, 1934 in Exeter to William and Mary (Rychecky) Sladek. She started working at a young age in a restaurant and then moved onto factory work (Form Fit, Elgin Watch Co.). On July 2, 1955 she married Kenneth Kubicek. In the late 1950’s, Ken bought his first truck and they both started Kubicek Trucking. In June 1966, Velma and Ken became the first owner and fleet operators with Crete Carrier Corp. In 1971, Velma and Ken’s Trucking business had expanded to thirteen trucks over the road. At that time they had built their own shop. Velma did the office work (dispatching, bookkeeping). In the early 1980’s, she had started Vel’s Trailer Wash which she ran until her retirement. She moved to Lincoln to be closer to her family. She was an outdoor person, loving her garden, flowers, yard work, cooking, and spending time with her family/grandchildren. SURVIVORS Daughter and son-in-law: Cynthia and James Stevens, Lincoln Granddaughters: Jennifer and Kendra Stevens, Lincoln Son and daughter-in-law: Charles and Tina Boeck, Scottsdale, AZ Sisters and brothers-in-law: Ann and Eugene Cookus, Hastings Rose and Richard Pierson, Lincoln Sisters-in-law and son-in-law: Beverly and John Walker, Dorchester Shirley Sladek, Friend Many nieces and nephews. PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: Parents; Husband; Sister and brother-in-law, Mayme and Lumir Kvasnicka; brothers, William and Jerry Sladed; Niece, Kathy Sladek; nephew, Rex Sladek FUNERAL SERVICES 4:00 pm, Tuesday, Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th Street, Lincoln. Visitation, 9 am to 8 pm Sunday, with family greeting friends from 2 pm to 4 pm; 9 am to 8 pm Monday; 9 am until services Tuesday, all at the funeral home.
