Posey

Velma Velma Posey passed peacefully on March 31, 2016 with her family by her side. Velma was born November 2, 1942 in Alamo, Georgia to Zeddie and Josephine Knight. She was strengthened by faith and grounded by her everlasting love for family. She moved to Michigan in 1969. There she met and married the love of her life, Paul John Posey, Jr., on February 18, 1972. Velma started out in housekeeping in 1975 at Southwest Detroit Hospital where she worked her way up to surgical tech. She retired from St. John Hospital in 2007. She loved fishing, gardening and cooking. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul John Posey, Jr., her brother Nathaniel Knight and her sister Eula Mae Bowden. Velma is lovingly remembered by her sister Zeddie Mae Toomer, brother Ronald Knight (Nadine) and her daughter JoAnn Apacanis (Oshua). Her grandchildren Gina Arnold (Rance), Darian Knight (Nancy), Christopher Knight and Khrysti Apacanis. A host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and forever friends. Velma Posey was a wonderful woman, with an incredible spirit and a heart full of compassion and love. Anyone that knew her was a far better person because of it. We thank God for the time that we had with her.

Sometimes we let time pass us by. I wish I could have seen you more. I wish everything remained the same. My memories growing up often included you. I remember always needing 5 dollars when I came to visit so I can get a sub from papa Romanos. I have been wanting to visit but kept putting it off. It's hard to believe I won't get that chance anymore. I will forever miss you Aunti Velma. Your voice will forever be heard in my heart.
