HARRIET DYCHTON Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 24, 2012.
HARRIET DYCHTON - HUNTINGTON - Harriet (Czuczman) Dychton, 83, died peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012. She was born in Stryj, Poland, on Sept. 13, 1929. She studied nursing in Fulda, Germany, during WWII, and met Thaddeus, the love of her life, in a displaced person Camp in Boblingnen, and married on Oct. 4, 1946. Harriet, Thaddeus, and 18 month old son, Christopher immigrated to Rochester, N.Y. in 1951. After the birth of her second son, she was employed at Bausch & Lomb as a Quality Inspector. Harriet and Thaddeus relocated to Huntington in 1983, she worked at IBM. She was the "Beloved Babcia" on East Street attending many events at Brewster Pierce School as "fill in" grandparents. Her flower garden was her pride and joy and she adored all flowers, while she sat on her swing. Birding was a favorite pastime and passion, that she shared when volunteering at the Birds of Vermont Museum. She graciously acknowledges Julius Panuchi, and other brethren of the Dawn Bible Association, that have faithfully held a twice weekly bible study, via telephone, over the last several years. Harriet leaves family in Bonn, Germany, Krakow, Poland, and London, England; and is survived by her sons, Christopher Dychton and Julius Dychton (Colleen) of Huntington; her four grandchildren, Helena (Ernie) Keen of Irondequoit, N.Y., Ian (Joanna) Dychton of East Rochester, N.Y., and Shannon and Cassandra Dychton of Huntington; and one great-grandchild, Lillian Grace Keen, three years old. Harriet was an incredibly gracious person that shared a great sense of gratitude. She met all the challenges of her life with great faith and felt blessed to be surrounded by so many kind people throughout her life. We greatly appreciate and thank the wonderful VNA Hospice Team and support staff, especially Melanie, Mary, Michelle and Penny. A memorial service to honor, celebrate and remember Harriet will be held at the Huntington Public Library from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012. Arrangements made by Gifford Funeral Home, 22 Depot St., Richmond, VT 05477. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Richmond Rescue, 216 Railroad St., Richmond, VT 05477; or the Huntington Fire Dept., Huntington, VT 05462.

To The Family of Harriet-
You have all been so wonderful to Harriet during this difficult time, and she was so proud of you all.
So many times, Harriet spoke of all the folks around this neighborhood -that they were so special to her.
We will cherish the many plants in our home that were given to us from this marvelous woman, and we will for always be grateful that she was part of our lives.
Forever live the memories,
Leta & Gary Watkins

I will miss Harriet greatly, like I have missed Tad. Both had a sparkle, strength, and light that one only can hope to emulate as we grow older. Despite some trying times in their youth surrounding the War, they both were forward looking and hopeful, and made others feel loved.
Volleyball has never been the same without Tad, and the little house on East Street will change as well, but memories will live on.
I am so thankful for Harriet's friendship and the multitude of stories she shared about her life. I am thankful as well to her family for the deep caring they showed her over these past months, weeks, & days. Our thoughts are with you all.

Harriet's presence in our lives, her warmth, kindness, [that underlying feistiness!], and her wonderful smile have been an integral part of both our neighborhood and my family. Memories of holidays shared and traditional foods she prepared, the day she taught me to knit, sharing a glass of sherry [!], her love of conversation, all are gifts we have been blessed with. Even of late, Harriet exuded a graciousness seldom encountered in others. Our lives have been richer for the time we've spent with Harriet and her special sweetheart, Tad.

Dear Julius, Colleen, Cassie and Shannon,
I am so sad to hear of Harriet's passing. I am sure she is with the angels as she was an angel on earth. My parents and Tad will be welcoming her to their party, I am sure. Harriet was the warmest, most loving and most interested in others person that I have ever met. She helped my parents immensely. I'm with you all in spirit. Love, Myra
