Vera Hazel Lewis Smith

A retired secretary with the University of California Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Institute, she died at 6:25 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at Sterling Place. She was 77, a resident of Baton Rouge and native of Tunica. Visiting at All Faiths Christian Center, 7760 Mickens Road, Saturday, Feb. 20, from 8 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m., conducted by Dr. Lynn Morrison Jr. Interment in Winnfield Memorial Park. She is survived by five daughters and four sons-in-law, Estelle Johnson, Loretta and Charles Brown, Aretha and Darryl Freeman, Alicia and Sylvester Harrison Sr. and Valeria and Oliver Mack, all of Baton Rouge; four sons, Dr. Lynn Morrison Jr. and wife Joann, the Rev. Eros Morrison and Oscar Irving, all of Baton Rouge, and Michael Irving and wife Rethanet, of Sacramento, Calif.; sisters, Doretha Ford, Shirley Rose, and Dixie Addison and husband Lester, all of New Orleans, and Minnie and husband the Rev. Anthony Baskill, of Houston; brothers, Raymond Gray and wife Ella Rose, of New Orleans, Lee Arthur Gray and wife Sheryl, of Baton Rouge, and Lloyd Gray, of Tunica; 24 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Preceded in death by her parents, Beulah Gray and Albert Lewis; son, Stephane Irving; sister, Helen Gohircke and husband Henry; and brother, Charles Earl Gray. Pallbearers will be Lee Arthur Gray, Raymond Gray, Lloyd Gray, Andre Morrison, Charles Brown Sr. and Charles Brown Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Rico Morrison, Ricardo Johnson, Chaderick Brown Sr., Sylvester Harrison Jr., Sylvester Harrison Sr. and Darrell Albert.
