Verda Willard

Willard, Verda Verda Willard passed away peacefully in her home on August 20, 2015. Verda was born on November 1, 1933 in Jonesboro AR, to John Andy and Jessie (Trucks) Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings: Frank Johnson, Altha Hendrix, Birdie Holmes, Dorothy Blankenship and Louella Webb. She is survived by her daughter, Angie Willard and her grandson Chase Howse-Willard, and by many nieces, nephews and friends. Verda worked at many jobs in her lifetime, and was also an entrepreneur, owning or co-owning several businesses including a tavern, a furniture store, and a grocery store. She owned and operated Verda's Thrift Shop in Millburg MI for many years. Verda enjoyed dining out, dancing, socializing and card games. And she took great delight in her grandson. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, September 4, 2015 at 2 PM at Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, 2208 Winchell Ave. in Kalamazoo. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to cover her final expenses (remaining funds will be donated to Phoenix Community Church, United Church of Christ).
