Verne Disney III Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 12, 2024.
It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Verne Disney III, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. Verne's passing has left behind a legacy of kindness, devotion, and generosity.

Born and raised in Southern California, Verne's love for the outdoors was woven throughout his life. In his younger years, his passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles took him on countless journeys across the western United States, where he embraced the freedom and adventure of the open road. Verne was also an active and passionate member of the Southern California fishing community, including the California Surf Anglers and other local fishing groups. Described by members of his angler community as patient, helpful, and unselfish, he made a lasting impact on fellow enthusiasts and built lifelong friendships. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him in the fishing world.

Verne proudly served in the United States Air Force and later went on to work as a master diesel mechanic for Caltrans. His daughter Rosie has shared that Verne would say, "I can fix anything....except a broken heart."

In addition to his many passions, Verne was an active member of his local chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), where he served as secretary for his morning meeting. He was known for his commitment to the group, especially for providing the anniversary cakes to celebrate the sobriety milestones of his fellow members.

Above all, Verne was a devoted family man. In recent years, he spent his time caring for his aging parents, showing unwavering love and commitment. Verne made it a point to take his father fishing twice a week, ensuring his father remained engaged and filled with happiness. The time they spent together on the water was a source of great joy for both of them. Verne's positive spirit was felt by everyone he met-any time someone asked how he was doing, his response was always the same: "You know me, I'm always good."

Verne is survived by his loving wife Theresa, his two cherished daughters Rosie and Gina, his father, Verne Disney jr., and his four siblings, Celes, Daphne, Dennis, and Deborah. He is preceded in death by his loving mother Rose, and his granddaughter Maya, who was the light of his life. His spirit, love, and dedication to his family, friends, and community will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Verne's name to American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP.org), a cause close to his heart.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Surfrider Beach (near Malibu Pier) on Saturday, October 26th at 9am.

So very sorry and heartbroken to read this. I met Verne in 1970, his first day at Norton AFB, Ca. , and we became very good friends. Used to ride our 250cc dirt bikes in the desert. We went to Led Zeppelin concert at the LA Forum in 1971. We were roommates in the barrscks for a while. . . .and worked opposite each other in our air traffic control jobs. Verne was a strong controller and extremely smart, and quick-witted. We stayed in touch over the years and he always made it a point to call around Christmas, and my birthday. I would call him as well. Tried to reach him during the LA fires, but wasn't too surprised when I couldn't. My condolences to his family and especially his children and Mr. Disney. RIP Brother Verne, you will never be forgotten...just too many memories. So, Verne, In your immortal words from decades ago, "Peace, Love, and Brotherhood " to all.

There are not enough words.
Verne was namesake and God Father to my youngest.
His was the first Harley I ever rode, and he found my first and second Harleys for me.
Did my first top end in his garage in Bishop.
I wet water skiing for the first time behind his boat.
I broke my neck in the same driveway.
He saved my life that day.
He gave me the tools I use to stay clean, and live with honor and integrity.
He saved my life by giving me the tools to live addiction free.
He was the first man ever in my life who gave of himself freely, asking nothing in return.
He was my chosen Brother, and his death leaves an unfillable void.
Not a day goes by something happens, fishing, auto, motorcycle, mechanic, home repair, political...........where I have a momentary thought I gotta call Verne, he'd love that.
He was my chosen Brother, and his death leaves an unfillable void.
Condolences to Gina, Rose, and Theresa.

I practically lived at the Disney's house from 5th-6th grade. Daphne and I were inseparable. Verne was the the kind and tolerant big brother. He was laid back even then. Our paths would cross as teenagers and young adults and he always seemed the same. He remember how he loved taking his little brother everywhere with him. I know Verne will be missed. Kind people usually are. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Sail on Verne!

Awww, man. I got to know Verne in the late 2000's through a fishing website and he was the kindest and most supportive people on the site. When I started my website, Verne was the first one there every morning and always there to help. Just his kind words and respect really resonated with everyone, and he will be greatly missed. This picture of Verne was for our Christmas edition back in 2018. He always brought a smile to everyone's day. Respect Verne.

I met Verne at Reseda High School where we shared a couple of classes together. I haven't seen him since high school, but remember him as very kind with beautiful eyes. RIP, fellow Regent.

Knowledgeable and kind. He sent me some fishing gear, unsolicited, because he thought it would help in one of my surf-fishing goals. Just a random act of kindness. The world needs more of that, not less. Respect.

I'm so sad to hear of the passing of my Sweetie. That's what I called Verne, my dear friend since 1970 when we were both teenagers. I will miss Verne's kindness and love.

We are so very sorry to hear of Verne´s unexpected passing. We had the pleasure of meeting Verne through Theresa, he was so kind and so easy to talk to, fishing stories for days. Our prayers are with you all during this difficult time.

Grew up as next door neighbors until I enlisted in the Navy. We all played together as kids. One summer Verne, my brother, and I all got Mohawk haircuts together. Fun times...
