Dear Family:

Verniece and I were friends since our days of working together at Medtronic. She loved her family so much, and spoke frequently, in a loving and cherishing way, of her husband Orion, who passed away before I had the honor of meeting him. Verniece set a wonderful example for living the good life - love, faith, hope, and integrity. That's who she was, and she will be missed.

She was also the greatest Gophers fan I ever met.

Her Friend,

Dear Buans,

I was very saddened to hear of Verniece's passing. Verniece was so visibly the core of the family. You – we –were so very lucky to have such an amazing, strong, wise woman as a part of our lives.

Please know that John and I are thinking of each of you and send you our love. She leaves behind a wonderful family, to whom I send my profound sympathy.

To the family:

Like countless others, I worked with Verniece at Medtronic and witnessed the high level of enegy and expertise in her work. She was a very dynamic and strong person. Even after she "retired" she kept working part time anyway. I can't imagine her just sitting around and taking it easy. It just wasn't her nature to do that. I remember a luncheon she hosted for those of us who worked with her. It was a beautiful day, with great food, and companionship, and just so nice to spend the afternoon at her lovely home (and getting to play with her cute little dog.)

Verniece will be long remembered and greatly missed by her friends and anyone who knew her.

She was one of a kind!

I worked with Verniece for 6 1/2 years in Regulatory at Medtronic and knew her to be ethical, intelligent, hard-working and always willing to share and teach. We traded plants and vegetables from her garden for old auction books in Swedish. She always enjoyed a challenge to learn something new. She loved her trip to China with Brenda and shared pictures, books and travel tips with me before we made the same trip. Her family was always the first and most important thing in her life, she was always so proud of all of you. I know she will be missed but hopefully the memories will provide you with strength when you most need it.

To the family of Verniece Buan,

I met Verniece in August, 1988 during our first days at William Mitchell College of Law. To say that I was privileged would be an understatement.

She was my "right side neighbor" during our first year in law school. A year when strong friendships are built. To have a friend like Verniece was a gift from God. She was intelligent, compassionate and especially proud of her family.

On the day that I picked up the Minneapolis Tribune to read the obituary that we wrote for our Dad, I found Verniece's name - what an unexpected shock. My Dad died on Oct 10 and Verniece died the next day.

She was a wonderful person.

My deepest sympathy,

Tom Novitzki

John & Family -

My heartfelt condolances to all of you on the passing of a truly lovely woman. During the six years I worked at Medtronic, I have so many fond memories of Verniece. In addition to her quality of kindness, one of the many other things about her that really sticks in my memory is her wisdom. She always had such sage advice - both professionally and personally. We will keep your mom and all the rest of your family in our thoughts and prayers this week.

With kindest regards,

Verniece, Orion and the whole Buan family treated me like gold when I was going to school with John at the U of M ...and ever since. She came out to Pennsylvania for my wedding three years ago. We laughed and joked together this summer at John's 40th Birthday Party. Like all the Buans she had both an amazing intellect and a very warm heart that could appreciate my simple jokes and humble farm upbringing. Verniece always offered a kind word to lift me up (which I often needed) and some good advice to try and help me avoid some of those mistakes that would bring me me down. One of the things I liked most was when we would take the netting away from the rasberry bush outside the house and eat nearly as many outside as we brought in.
I'm very proud to have been accepted into her family and will miss her very much. Your Friend, Zoogie Enclosure: Photo of Verniece and her Brother Mark from July 2003.

Verniece was a joy to work with at Medtronic. I worked with her for the past seven years and I will remember her as a kind, considerate, compassionate, intelligent, and funny woman. She was very proud of and loved her daughter and two sons, her son-in-law, daughter-in-laws, and grandchildren. I will miss her very much.
