Mr. Jenkins died on Saturday June 18, 2022 in Pawleys Island, South Carolina.
In Loving Remembrance of Vernon
Mr. Vernon Jenkins, Sr. was born on July 23, 1934 in Pawleys Island, South Carolina to the marital union between Mr. Henry Jenkins, Sr. and Mrs. Jessie Sherald Jenkins. His parents, and six siblings, Myrtle Smooth, Beatrice Jenkins, Massey Head, Frank Jenkins, Henry Jenkins, Jr. and James Jenkins, all preceded him in death.
Vernon received his early education at Holy Cross Faith Memorial School, and graduated from Howard High School.
He was a life-long dedicated member of Holy Cross Faith Memorial Episcopal Church, where his family worshiped.
Mr. Jenkins served his country Honorably in the United States Army’s Tanker Division for four years. After completion of his military career, he later resided in Newark, New Jersey.
On September 25, 1960, Vernon was united in holy matrimony to his devoted wife, the former Miss Carlethia Ford. Together, they shared love, and life, with the births and rearing of three children.
For twenty-five years, Mr. Jenkins was an astute employee of the Wilbur B. Driver Metal Manufacturing Company in Newark. He also served in the capacity of Recording Secretary and Shop Steward for Local Union #699.
Years later, following retirement, the couple returned to Pawleys Island. Vernon loved his family dearly and did his very best to provide. He cherished the time spent with each of them, especially his grandchildren. His many friends from New Jersey and South Carolina remember him as “the jokester”, as it was his mission to keep a smile on everyone’s face. We will carry his laughter, and love in our memories.
On June 18, 2022, Vernon was called Home from labor to reward. He leaves to mourn: his loving wife of more than sixty-years, Carlethia Jenkins of Pawleys Island, SC; his three devoted children, Cathy Jenkins of Center Point, AL, Vernon Jenkins, Jr. of Newark, NJ, and Erick Jenkins (Safiah) of Teaneck, NJ; one brother, Sheddrick Jenkins of New York; six beloved grandchildren, Rashaune’ “Mikey” Jenkins , A’Adil “Dilly” Jenkins, Vernon “JJ” Jenkins III, Jaylan “Hammer” Jenkins, Myasia Jenkins, and Sahar “Sweetheart” Jenkins; his three great-grandchildren, Theresa Jenkins, Rashaune Jenkins, Jr., and Shakira Jenkins; one great-great grandchild, Egypt Jenkins; brother-in-law, Howard Blye (Shelia) of Piscataway, NJ; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Syndab and Wilhemenia Jenkins both of Pawleys Island, SC and Juanita Jenkins of New York; he leaves three very special nieces, Loretta Lafond (Eddie) and Carol Jenkins all of New Jersey, Ursula Syndab of North Carolina; a special nephew Robert Lance (Brenda) of South Carolina; several “adopted daughters”, Deborah McKethan, and Denise Britton, all of New Jersey, Sandra Howard of Florida, Latisha Sterling of North Carolina, Louise Bryant of New York, and Donna George of New Jersey; he also leaves his best friends, Richard Roberts (Marie), Ralph Routh (Joann), and Robert “Bubba” Buck, all of Pawleys Island, SC, and Sam Routh of Charlotte, NC.
